The image shows a dog with a lot of white on it's muzzle - more than that of an 8-year-old dog that I have. I doubt that he is anywhere near 2 -2.5 yrs old. I also recall seeing this dog for sale about a year ago at least, and he was 2 years old in that ad as well. (Image directly below.)
Any comments on age?

white on a muzzle like gray hair on a human a certain amount is hereditary. So I couldn't make assumptions. I have had 10 year old dobermans with almost no white and I have had young dogs that looked older if you were simply going by the white on the face.

I will say 5 yrs. old is a safe guess. He has about the same greying my Mojo does. He will be 8 y.o in Sept. Definitely not before 3 years, going by my guy. I do agree with Reggie, though, that it is hereditary and can only be a guess.

I believe stress level is a huge contributor...my femalemuzzle turned white when we got Bailey, i think puppy stressed her out. When we got another male dog Bailey was now focused on him and my females muzzle is back to black...same thing with Dozer, his muzzle turned white when we had ridgeback stay with us for the summer, once ridgeback went back to her owners his muzzle went back to black-normal.
here is Dozer 3 summers ago.
here is Dozer last month.

That is amazing, LadyFrost! I always assumed that once they were gray, they stayed gray. Thanks for sharing!

My question: Just an "old dog" trying to learn new tricks (the old dog is ME).
Did not mention particulars because the question is more general and not meant to be aimed negatively at anyone. To me the dog looked older than 2.5 and not just because of the white hair - I know I could be wrong. Teeth and gums could be a give-away, especially if not well cared-for.
I met a lady with a pure black female GSD, and this dog had absolutely no white hair on her even though she was about 10 years old.
One of my dogs developed what looked like white hair on his chin at an early age (under two years). At times it looked like the hair was just reflecting light. Someone told me this happens when dogs drink water from a bowl that is NOT real stainless steel.
Always good to learn more... I always pass good insights onto others.
