Six months ago I surprised my mother with tickets for a two week trip to Italy to celebrate her 70th birthday. She had never been out of the country. We had a wonderful time and arrived back in the states on Sunday night.

On Monday she called her friend, from my house, to check on her dogs. Her friend told her both dogs were fine but Ty was a little off his food, his poop looked black to her and his gums had a funny black stain on them. This elderly lady is very sweet but also very ignorant about dogs as a whole.  The dark poop and black gums set alarm bells off for me and my mom, so she cut her stay with me short and drove home 6 hours the next morning.

When she got home she took Ty immediately to the vet, who thought Ty's symptoms fit with with rat poisoning. He gave Ty some medication and performed a fluids procedure. My mom lives in a rural community and her vet is not equipped to handle over night critical care, so he sent Ty home with an appointment for first thing the next morning.

This morning Ty still would not eat and his symptoms were worse, he was now bleeding from his gums, anus and eyes. He continued to worsen despite treatment and by this afternoon, started hemorrhaging from the mouth.

Ty was put to rest this afternoon from acute symptoms caused from poisoning.

My heart aches for my mother's loss and for the pain Ty suffered from the cruel act of a soulless person. This little dog loved everyone and was a happy go lucky little guy. He was my mothers, who lives alone, companion and friend through hard times and happy times.

Rest in peace little guy, you will be lovingly remembered.

:(

Rip Ty.

Could this have been an accident? Got into a neighbors posion?

No matter it is very sad to lose a furry loved one.

Sorry for your mothers loss.

Dogs can get poisoned by eating rats and mice that have fed on rat poison, or eating the poison themselves. Hard to say what happened in this case.

Rest in peace, poor little guy!  Sad Smile

GSD, Sunsilver and Bee

Thank you for your kind words.

I thought the same thing, it had to have been an accident. Unfortunately, I don't think it was.

My mom lives in a little neighborhood of houses that each sits on a 1/4 acre and most are completely fenced with fencing about 4' high. My mothers neighbor and my mother scoured the property and her garage, asked the neighbors on side of them if they used rat poison or had a problem with mice or rats, all said no.

I have met all of her immediate neighbors and they are all very nice people. I haven't met any of the adult neighbors down the street but, I have caught an ornery teenage boy throwing rocks at my mother's neighbors dog, he thought it was funny to watch the dog try and get away from the rocks. He has also been in trouble with the law for beating up one of the younger (6 yrs.) kids that live at my mom's end of the street.

My mom's neighbor lets her dog (and my moms dogs) out in the front yard to play and relieve themselves most of the time, so it would have been easy for someone to throw a piece of poisoned meat over the fence.  My mom lets her dogs out in her back yard and the only time they are out front is when she is out front.  Anyway, was it an accident, highly unlikely, or deliberate we will never know for sure.

He sounds like a furture serial killer. They start out small often with harmless animals and later get bigger and braver. Where my mom live people think nothing of throwing poison to your dogs. We have a poison kit on hand at all times because of the cruelity of such people.

I'd report it to the local police in case it start happening on a regulat basis. Then they might catch the creep.

And a poison kit contains Activated charcoal liquid and Vitiman K. Charcoal to absorbe the poison and Vk to stop the bleeding.

I hope the find those responsiable for this.

Cheri,

A terrible tragedy! I am very sorry to hear that this has happened to Ty.

This was no way for the dog to die. Truly senseless!

R.I.P. Ty !!!

Thanks Fry and Steve.

I spoke to my mom this afternoon and she did file a report with the Sheriffs department.

Come to find out Ty makes the third dog in two years to die from rat poisoning on her street. That's a lot considering her street only has 20 houses on it.

Very Scary.

Hopefully the police will catch and punish whoever was cruel enough to poison a helpless dog.  My sincere condolences to you and your mom.

RIP Ty. Wilted Rose
