Yes, Jen I had figured that out.  Thx though;  at least it wasn't both dogs with bad news and at least it was not your girl.  Here's hoping the owner the best of luckl.  Nan

Borderline? Wow. Either the vet is a greedy SOB or he's smoking something, if ya get my drift. These hips are easily OFA Good.

The point of my post was not to show off the excellent so much as show HOW WRONG VETS CAN BE and how people really need to be their dog's advocate. This owner left the vet thinking his dog had hip dysplasia! Angry Smile

I would take that into the vet and rub it all in his face. Bazinga!

That's just me though. Did you find out if the other dog did, in fact, have bad elbows?

Were I the owner of this dog, I would make an appointment for a consult about my dog's hips, take the OFA certification along with me, and once we were behind the closed door of the exam room, I would quietly and calmy tell said vet that I was even more concerned about the situation with Dina's hips than I was when we'd last spoken of them. Then I'd explain the reason I was so much more upset is because the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals reviewed the films they had taken, and rated her hips as EXCELLENT, not borderline, not even just fair, but EXCELLENT, while he had suggested that they would fail the evaluation and I should be considering surgery on them.  I'd make it clear that this is PRECISELY the reason why I would no longer be using their services, and that I'd be reporting my dissatisfaction with their actions to the State Board of Veterinary Medicine.  Bad enough that the first dog ws subjected to an emergency surgery that was NOT an emergency, let alone may not have been necessary at all--if they don't know how to read a radiograph correctly, then they shouldn't be taking them or reading them, period.

Then I'd pay the bill for the consult--which should be no more than the cost of an office visit--and instruct them to forward all records for my animals to the new veterinarian I'd selected to care for them.

Better this vet keep his misdiagnoses to himself, and just tell their clients they would need to either have a private board-certified radiologist or OFA evaluate any films in the future, because they weren't any good at that task.

Congrats on the OFA Excellent hips on this girl.
