I like a high powered drying while my dog is blowing coat.  It pulls out way more hair, doesn't cause any brush burn, won't actually break the coat like a Furminator does, and allows me to check him for ticks or other problems very thoroughly.

If you can't get in and use a power dryer a leaf blower will do the same. Our dogs are obsessed with the leaf blower! When they see it they run over since they love it to be used on their coats! Our male even rolls over for me to do his belly, legs and paws!

Shop vac, works much like a forced air dryer to blow out the coat. Just make sure you empty the vac. before you reverse the process.

I used to use the dryer we bought for the Harley. The AKC people transport cattle dryers to every show. They are so powerful they almost have to nail the dogs to the grooming table.

Um yeah the dryer I use at the pet store is more powerful than any reversed shop vac or leaf blower combined!  The one I have at home is not very powerful, but I won it in a raffle so I can't complain.  It takes me 3-4 times longer to use my little Metro dryer than the one at the pet store.  That one is more comparable to an air compressor I use in our computer shop at work that blasts 90psi out of a hole the size of a pencil tip.

I agree with the high velocity dryer.  I have a double coated breed and I bathe the dogs and use a "zoom groom" when sudsing and rinsing them.  It massages the skin and really helps to pull the dead hair out.  I then dry off with the dryer/blower.   I have a Metro and and livestock one and the livestock one is far more powerful :-)

Here is the link to the zoom groom:

While you can get a horse curry comb that is essentially the same I find that the rubber used in the zoom groom is a bit different and seems to catch the hair better but that could be my imagination.

I bought a Furminator and used it for a while. I don't use it anymore because it does break the hair. I've also used a horse shedder and curry comb. Both of those work OK but, I think they are rough on the coat.

My dogs don't blow their coats like I've seen some shepherds, you know the look......like a lama in molt.

When they shed their summer and winter coats I use the Zoom Groom (long toothed rubber curry) and take them to the self grooming station at my dog food store. The high velocity dryer works wonders for removing loose under coat and the electronically elevated wash tub works wonders on my back :) Plus my house does not smell like wet dog and I don't have dog hair (wet and dry) everywhere Teeth Smile.

The nice thing about the Best Shot shampoo stuff is that it breaks the oil and static hold without drying out the dog's coat or skin. Plus the conditioner allows the coat to release it's hold on itself while keeping the coat feeling correct. And the finishing spray repels dirt and oil and keeps the coat looking nice for longer.

But the HV blower is worth it's weigh in gold!
