Need to be carefull with sites like this.First of all, it deals with Michigan state law. Second. One of the reasons we have problems like the one discussed yesterday on the message board is because of Lawyers, everybody today is sue happy, or if they are not by the time they speak to their lawyer they are. They get money the victim gets money and the insurance companies in turn get money because of the suit....... Why work when we can sue?...lol.It happens everyday. Not saying nobody should not be able to file suit, just be honest about it and don't screw the rest of the everyday working class people that do go to work everyday

I posted the site for the articles that are there, not the lawyer's sales pitch. One of those articles addresses the dogs most likely to bite, GSD's are on that list. The statistics are the result of dog bite cases reported to the National Institute of Health. There are a number very pertinent srticles regarding our current situation in the dog world, it's not pretty or encouraging. Those are the statistics our legislators use when making these stupid dog laws. One mid west city recently passed an ordinance requiring anyone owning specific breeds, GSD's included, or any dog over 100 lbs to be muzzled when walked on a public street. Others are discussing the same, it is pending in at lest one NE state municipality. They substantiate these ridiculous rulings with the use of statistics such as those listed on that website. There are other articles about the way the general public is thinking about dogs that are protection trained, Schutzhund could be considered protection training under their definition. Take it as a head-up as what we, as dog owners and breeders, will have to deal with in the future. Also, it's a good example of what is readily available to the general dumb-about-dogs public regarding dogs and how they can sue for anything as innocuous as a scratch from a freindly dog. I don't take my dogs to any of these - meet the breed events, never have. Too much chance for a big problem.

When you say "it is pending in at least one NE state municipality." are you meaning Nebraska, (NE) or one New England state? Just wanted to be sure since some people confuse the two.

Sorry, I meant a New England state, I think Mass, but I'd have to check to be sure.

www.akc.org has a whole section on new canine legislation. The page covers what AKC and others are doing to fight these rediculous laws, like that muzzle law. There is also a way that if someone hears about a new law they can contact ALC and if AKC hasn't heard of it, they will send someone to check it out. The names of the legislators pushing the laws are also on there as well as who to write to, to give your opinion.
