The minutes from the Sept AKC delegates meeting are now on the AKC website. These minutes contain a report of the proposed partnership with Petland and the reactions of some of the AKC delegates present at that meeting. what in gods name is Petland? Is it another petstore that sells pets? I sure as hell hope that it isn't! this will make AKC look extremely terrible! Oops, sorry. It's /about/delegate_meeting not sbout/delegate_meeting. Try it again and let me know if if still isn't working. You are right, you can access it from the akc.org home page. It's a lot to digest, so anyone interested might want to print out the relevent pages. Yes, Petland is a wholesale chain of around 120 stores nationwide that sells most of the same items one can purchase at Petco and Petsmart plus puppies.

how can AKC look worse than they do. They put their stamp of approval on the very dogs that populate the pet stores and later the shelters.

SHHHH! Don't tell anyone, I used to be an Assistant Manager for Petland, for 3 years.... That was WAY before I knew what was going on with the "brokers" and puppy mills. Hell My first dog was from there, and she was "AKC" registered. Here is how her pedigree went... The same male on her Sires side,was her father, her grandfather, her uncle, and that SAME male was on her DAMS side as her grandfather, and great-grandfather. I spent 5800 dollars on her in 5 years, JUST on MEDICAL PROBLEMS. Althoough, she was the best dog I ever owned, the suffering she had to go through was horrible.. Yeah AKC does REALLY WELL, NOT!!!! I can tell you how the daily grind, and puppy choosing went on if you all want, just let me know. ITs SICKENING!!! i finally had to have her put down. Mercedes (her name) was a good dog that fought until the very end..

mercedes1005 I'd like to know how the puppy choosing went on...please share. I can't believe how many people still buy puppies from pet stores, you'd think with all the info out there that would be no-no #1. When I talk to people at work (they think of me as the dog expert there) they are always surprised at how adimant I am about NOT purchasing a puppy at a pet store, and I am equally surprised that they were considering it. It sickens me to think the AKC is supporting such an atrocity! Regards, Melanie

The AKC has sunk to a new low and is just like a PROSTITUTE selling their wares. WILL PETLAND study pedigrees and plan breedings with health and longevity in mind? NO! If there is a problem health wise with a dog, will PETLAND care? NO! NO, I am not a breeder, but with all that breeders' are trying to accomplish with health, longevity, temperament, it looks like that the AKC is now working against breeders. JMO! Dawn Bonome

That is what the papers would look like. There's no reason for Mercedes to scan and post.
