I was feeding my boy Wellness and recently changed to Royal Canin. He loved the Wellness but it seemed to makes his stools a little loose and soft. He has eaten some of the Royal Canin but with much hesitation and it has fixed the stool problem. So, my question is, does anyone have anything they ever mix into the food to help make it more appealing? I do add a little warm water, but he just doesnt really care for it as he did with the Wellness. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

I have one dog who is a problem eater with the touch of IBS on top(a joy to have-good thing I love her so).I feed the Royal Canin GS food and she likes it most of the time. To "encourage" her to eat, I use two different approaches - one, I'll use chicken broth warmed up a little(the kind that comes in the "paper" containers works well- you can re-seal it). I also have a dehydrated raw food from the Honest Kitchen that ALWAYS works. You just add warm water to it to make a "soup" and add it to the food. She actually will whine and drool for that. My other two GSDs and my husband's mutt all do well on the combination. Hope this helps! Oh, and what comes out the other end seems to be ok.

Don't add anything to get him to eat it as it may return the stool problems. He will eventually eat it and be happpy to, just put it down and if he doesn't eat it in 15 minutes pick it up and put away until next meal time that evening, do the same thing, he eventually will look forward to it. Glad to here the stools are normal again.

Yeah I will try the chicken broth. That sounds like it should work. As for turning him into a picky eater, well, he already is. My dog is spoiled. I have used the honest kitchen stuff before as well. He loved it, except it made him poop like eight times everytime we went out. We went maybe 2 miles on a walk once and he really did poop 8 times when I had him on that stuff. The chicken broth is a good idea though, I will try that. Thank you!

Try adding a few pieces of "RAW" chicken to the dry food with water...

Try letting him get good and hungry LOL.

While many of us will alter the new food a bit with some broth or a few pieces of the former kibble fed, I agree that it is not good practice to pamper (spoil) a healthy dog. As I said the other day, no healthy dog has ever staged a hunger strike, and he will eat when he is hungry. Bob-O

Keep it simple and don't add extra "stuff". When the dog gets hungrey, it will eat. I used to pamper my one male when one of the girls was in season, not any more and now he never goes off his food. Besides, if you go on vacation or to a dog function, the more "stuff" the dog is used to the harder it is on everybody.

Feed him real food and guess what, no problems. Real food is what he is looking for. Raw is the way to go,no living creature was designed to live on food from a bag or can.
