Any news?

by czechGSD on 06 September 2006 - 22:09

Here's is a link to the most recent press release (dated Sept. 1) from Gwent Police: http://www.gwent.police.uk/gwpnews/fnews.cgi?record=509 Apparently there is now going to be another assessment by a "well-respected expert in the field of working dogs" lasting up to four weeks. This decision was made after consultation with the Gwent Police Authority's Animal Welfare Committee.

Wow!!! How long has this dog been away from his family? What a farce! I guess we should be breeding for pet homes where we know our dogs will be safe. Forget the drive and working ability. I feel the Saxon story is a tragedy.

Sad, isn't it?

If this is what Police Departments will be doing to GSD'S, then GSD breeders' tell the Gwent Police Dept to BLOW, and use Chihuahua's instead for Police work. The German Shepherd does not deserve this. These CLOWNS are just looking for ANYTHING to put this dog to DEATH. Dawn Bonome

I find this so hard that they just do not get it. When they evacuated New Orleans before the hurricane, alot of people did not leave because they would not allow their pets to go with them. When Texas started to evacute, the Mayor of Houston insisted pets to also go with the owners to every other authorities complaint. Houston had a higher success rate of getting people out. We left our dog soldiers behind in Vietnam, I thought we learned by our past mistakes. This makes me very sad, that this fight for him is going on. Saxon should be in a place of honor, with his family at home with all the love and respect he deserves.

Sorry all for not updating you sooner, I have been in Germany for the Sieger show and came home to a mountain of work and a new puppy. Saxon has indeed been removed from Gwent police kennels and is undergoing a month long assessment with an un-named trainer/expert? Dr Roger Mugford - of dangerous dogs act fame- joined the campaign and was in consultation with Gwent, Roger wanted to assess Saxon and we all beleived that this would go ahead. This did not happen and Saxon has been removed to the unknown assessor, which IMHO was Gwents way of avoiding a report on Saxon which may have been at odds with thiers. We have now stepped up the publicity drive and PR/lobbiest company has joined in the fight. As always any ideas, contacts or sugestions will be most apreciated. Carol

Hi Carol (Radical) Thanks for the update. Talk about Brushing under the Carpet, Gwent Police must have a mountain under their feet by now!! Wakey, Wakey GwentPD no matter where you sweep it, Mud Sticks! At least they know Roger Mugford is actively aware, perhaps they were too scared to let him have Saxon because they knew Roger would suss their false farse out pretty damned quick, so are now trying to save face. Fingers crossed the idea of using this un-named trainer for 4 weeks is for Gwent to save face, lets hope they re-emerge Saxon as the dog he always was and not as a re-trained disaster. Regards Sue ps Give Taz a hug from me, hope he is acting the perfect model puppy and not living up to his full namesake! :-))
