Ok I have always read that it should be 89.7 when she starts labor and any where from 12 hours before the first puppy. Well a friend is having her first litter and the temp was 89.9 this morning and now it has gone back up to 100.1 is this normal? I never had one go back up they always delivered. BTW she has been taking temp every day for the last four days morning , noon, and night Thanks

89.7???? Most of my females the last wk will go up and down from say 98.7 to 100.3. My one female went at 97.1, the other at 97.6. You are basically looking for the 1 degree drop and it stays down. The only time I worry about it going up is when the due date comes and goes (I do progesterone testing). Had one female spike up to 101.3 one day after due date, emergency c section. no contractions but puppy feet in the canal!! I normally only do 2/day, anything more than that would have me over analyzing, lol. Good luck!

Mine sometimes dip to 100 or a little less, then go up to normal, then drop to 98 or so. I would watch for the lower down to 98 drop in temp. It's usually a day or two after the first drop.

I have had the temp down fairly low and then spike up a few degrees but still less than normal. They wsually whelped within 24 hours after temp orginally lowered. Good luck your friend may have a s;eep;ess night tonight. Marlene

General "Rule of Thumb"--- When the temperature stays under 100 for 24 hours she will deliver in the next 24 One should not be too concerned with fluctuation early on but "pay attention" to due date. Morgan
