Hi,
I am going to a show this next weekend with 2 of my girls and they are shedding. Their coats are shinny and all but every time you tough them hair falls out. I am brushing them consantly what else can I do to help them look their best for the show???

JFU... give them a bath with a good quality shampoo to take most of the loose hair off. After they dry off re-brush them again. I use Mr. Groom spray coat and conditioner, works very well.

should I give them a bath the night before or a few days??

JFU,
If they are shedding naturally then it is your bad luck. You can not do much about it. In that case dont brush them hard. Give a bath only on the day or night before. That is my experience. If it GSD speciality show then you need not worry as if your dogs are really good anatomically and on movement judge will ignore the coat condition as it is natural to shed. But if it is All breed show then you may loose some points. Anyway best of luck.

JFU, a coat conditioner with bit of mink oil will slow the rate of shedding and add some richness to the coat, but of course shedding is a fact of life. It seems that 50% of the time any GSD will blow a coat just before a show.
Sumo, you hit the point on the all-breed shows. The last one that we entered, all of our bitches had blown their coats and looked less than stellar. Oh well, it was an A.K.C. show and they had not much of chance anyway, just a fun thing that we do once per year.

You really need to say what type of show it is. The AKC and SV rings are at opposite ends of coat grooming.

ok well it is not AKC but it is a CACIB it is in Romania. It is with all breeds. The judges are not SV judges. the show is called the Dracula Dog show.

It sounds like you have two options.
Leave the dead hair in until showtime and brush before the show to have as much of a coat as possible without clumps of fur falling out. If your dog has a decent coat, this may be the better option.
If the coat is gone, You may be better washing just prior to the show and blowing it dry to produce a little fluff to enhance what's there.
What to avoid is a fluffy coat that makes your dog look 10 pounds heavier and waves as the dog runs giving the appearance the dog is loose.

the one female has basically no coat her hair is shinny and she has great pigment but If her hair was a little longer she would look better so I think I will wash her just prior to the show her sister has more dense coat and so I think I will wash her a day or so befor just to make her presentable
thanks for all ur help

Flax oil will help along with other fatty acids.
