I am very interested in training my bitch, but as I live in Southern Scotland, I am really struggling to find a club or trainer. I have tried the BSA site without much success. Any ideas. Also I'm struggling to see the difference between show and working lines, feel free to put me straight

unfortunetly you have two problems the southern most scottish club is Saltire near Glasgow they train sat and sunday with excellent training (the current BSA champion is the trainer) and excellent facilities (most BSA members travel long distances to their clubs) there are big difference between show and working lines and you have to see and investigate again Saltire has both as do lots of clubs, if you tell me the main lines in your animals pedigree i can tell you which lines they come from and this site has an excellent pedigree database feel free to ask questions i will do my best with mt limited knowledge and time in the breed and in sch

We too live a long way (200+ miles) from any schutzhund clubs (that I am aware of), so would strongly suggest that you get to a WUSV qualification/schutzhund seminar such as the one we just attended in Surrey run by Antilli kennels and supported by Von-Wolf training, as we learnt that there are lots of things that you can start to do on your own (scent pads, developing drive, increasing the response time of our dogs to commands etc). We also got the opportunity to watch both showline and working line dogs do protection work, had our dogs assessed and 1st class advice on how to develop drive in order to proceed further. I think that Carol and Alyson are planning another seminar in September, so hopefully they will advertise it on this board.

i think and hope that a similar seminaar will be run in the north soon if people register an interest please do and i am sure the BSA members on this board will organise something

Hi, For Reason and Nugget - I put a message on the "Double Standards" thread today about where I live (East of Scotland). Cannot add to that thread now, do not know why, but can you please answer me here thanks. I have e-mailed Nugget already, but I notice you have both started new threads about Schutzhund Training. I have again e-mailed my contact with the Scottish Club and await a reply from him also. I just wondered why none of you want to reply to me now that I have said where I live??????? Thanks

I believe both the German Shepherd Dog League of Great Britain and the British Association of German Shepherd Dogs have Schutzund Clubs, if you cannot find a suitable club why not contact carol lister, the German Shepherd Dog League of Great Britain secretary or Doreen little the British Association for German Shepherd Dogs secretary to advise you. Contact numbers can be found on thier web sites.

To Reason - I have contacted the one in Fife not the one in Denny - I have a contact who trains at the Fife Club (do not know the name of the Club though) and it is he who tells us it is full, but I have e-mailed him again today to ask the status of the Club at this time, still awaiting his answer. I will look at the BSA Website and get the name of that Club. We have not approached the Club at Denny, do you think that would be a better option for us? I am not sure which one is run by whom, sorry!! I will check all websites mentioned and I will e-mail Carole, I have her e-mail address perhaps she can help. I will keep you posted as to any progress from now. Thanks again.

Hello again Reason No I am not busy setting up my own club, I confused the two clubs Rottie man was obviously from Bolton, South Cheshire is the club I will contact. I would like to see a club nearer home, as I find it difficult to attend regularily due to my very erratic work, plus that work does not leave me with enough spare time to devote to a new club. All my spare time is taken up by my dogs, husband, children (one disabled), lecturing and sleep! regards C.
