opinion on Testical in pup - Page 1

can anyone give me their honest opinion on this subject i bought a pup to show but one of his testical's is still no where to be seen the vet said when i took him for his first jab at 7 1/2 weeks before he jabbed him he checked him over heart & testicals then he said he was a healthy pup etc BUT!! he could only feel one testical and that the other one was no where to be felt there still is no sign of it even now if a pups other testical has not come down at 17 weeks of age would anyone be worrying bearing in mind he could be a little imature for his age did inform the breeder the same day the breeder said will talk again when he is 6 months old any feed back would be hugely appreciated

I wouldn't wouldn't worry yet, he's young they could still drop. It is also not uncommon for them to go up and down within the first few months. However after experiencing purchasing a cryptorchid pup where it never did drop, if I was in your position I would see if I could return the pup and get another one, now, before I have bonded too much with him. The breeder would also be more likely to oblige now (unless there was a warranty in place) while the pup is still young and re-sellable to a pet home. IMO the breeder should checked and informed you of this issue at the time of purchase, especially if she was selling it as "show quality". Although having been through this experience I would have definitely checked myself or if shipping; required seeing a health cert. where the vet would note if one or both were missing before I handed over the check. Granted some breeders might think I'd be overdoing it, but better to be safe than sorry. IMO, also if you are seriously interested in showing I personally would purchase a young adult who's hips have been pre-limed for HD. More issues as far as health, temperament, working ability and conformation will be on the table instead of waiting and hoping. There are so many issues that can arrive when purchasing a pup, you increase your chances for success when purchasing an older pup. I purchased two GSD pups who turned out to be "pets" before purchasing an adult and finally getting what I was looking for. Good luck, Melanie

just wanted opinion on this i have no intentions of sending him back as he is our pet more than anything at the moment and he properbly always will be but i just wanted to have other opinions on the matter and they are greatfully appreciated so thank you

i just wanted everyone to know that there is genuine breeders out there and they are not all fly by nights just after a quick buck to get rich quick scheme like some out there....... my pup's breeders are true genuine breeders and are genuine chaps after approaching and explaining my pups problem they has asured me for what ever reason his testical doe's not drop they have offerd me another pup in their words & not mine "it goe's with out saying" so i thank them for their true devotion to the german shepherd and for been descent & genuine g.s.d breeders that care about their dogs & buyers thanks again
