I am paying $1000 for a female breeding puppy whose mother is a Pohranicini Straze dog, and I want to know, am I getting a good personal protection dog? Or will she be more of a sport dog? Her sire is Iltis Von Der Wildsau and her dam is Ginta Z Pohranicini Straze. If you know either the Wildsau or Pohranicini Straze lines, and have an idea how this puppy will turn out, please comment!

You can ask the breeder of the pup. They more than anyone else should know about the pups personality, the sire & dam, and what they were breeding for. This question has come a little late IMO. You also cannot gurantee that a puppy will be good for breeding just by bloodlines alone. I cannot personally comment on either above dog mentioned as I do not know them, but the breeder can. I would start there.

Xando, Thank you,I am very comfortable with the breeder, he's a nice man, and as you know, very knowledgable. He recommended that I pick a Ginta puppy because she would be producing medium to high drive puppies, and that I would be looking for a medium. He breeds for nice working dogs, but he has told me that the lines have a lot to do with how the dog's temperament/personality/workability will turn out to be. I know what he told me, I was just looking for someone who had also dabbled in the Pohranicini Straze lines as well, for a second opinion. Thanks!

Here's a thread from the Leerburg Forum regarding Pohranicni Straze Kennel that I found very informative. http://www.leerburg.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/4139094/an/0/page/1 My boy has a few Pohranicni Straze dogs in the first three generations, one of the more famous is Titus, he was said to be one of the most recognized stud dogs of his time and was said to have produced some of the hardest working BP dogs in Czech and Slovak history. (I don't know first hand, but thats what I've read). I am very happy with the performance of my boy, nice civil aggression but friendly and outgoing until he needs to be otherwise. Hard, nice drives (prey, defense and fight) but clear in the head. Definitely a "sleeve only" type dog, if thats what you mean about "sport dogs" but I hope he will turn out to be a great "sport dog" for me:-) In your case I would weigh the parents on their own merit, see how they work in person. I think that is the best way to evaluate what they may produce. If this is a repeat breeding, check out how their progeny is performing.

Typo...sorry!!! Definitely *NOT* a "sleeve only" type dog.

Who are Ginta parents? Some people in my club are also really into Czech line GSD's & I believe several have had dogs from PS lines as well.

Blueskye, one very important aspect to raising a confident working puppy is how you the owner treats the pup. The pup can have a great pedigree, nice genetic make-up and get screwed up by a new owner. Many new owners ruin pups by rushing them along. Let a puppy be a puppy. Kyle

I have to agree with Kyle on that. I have two Czech dogs great lines but pushed them in obedience and now I am paying the price. Czech dogs need time to mature (for most of them there are also exceptions to the rules). Let it be a puppy. Pedigrees are great and give an idea of what CAN come from them but look at the parents and see what they can do. then the rest is up to you. Price is a little below normal on a working dog most go anywhere from 1200.-2000.00 depending on breeder, titles and so on.

EKvonEarnhardt, I know $1000 is low, but do any of you know Cimmerian German Shepherds? The man and his dogs are GREAT! And if I'm getting a deal for a pretty good dog, do you think I'm going to complain? I know some of you know Chip, and know of his integrity, honesty, and TOP QUALITY dogs, do you think I should be worried about getting a "deal" puppy that might be inadiquate? Chip has been in this for 15 years, and I will trust his opinion, because I KNOW, I have SEEN, he breeds quality working/personal protection/family companion dogs, I just was wondering about the PS lines. Thanks!!!
