Trialing a pregnant female - Page 1

Has anyone trialed a pregnant female? I would think that a pregnant female should be handled delicately. Then again how delicately are pregnant wolves handled in the wild. I came across this expanation while viewing a puppy add, "In the short time we had her we did the BH,and actually she did the AD, SCH I and II, and koerung all during her pregnancy, but now she get a well deserved rest till the puppies are born". I was just curious to see if this is common and or safe? Kyle

It's not anything I'd do with a pregnant girl..... it's possible everything could be fine but I'm not willing to take that risk with a litter or my female. To me, there is so much invested.... just not what I'd do....

I competed at the Regionals a few years back with a pregnant bitch. She did good, but DKiah is right there is a lot invested in the breeding. I would not do it again as there are things that can go wrong. As far as pregnent wolves in the wild they are not handle very delicatly at all, but then again they also don't run around TeePees , retreive dunbells over hurdles and do long bites with helpers coming at them. As far as the puppy Ad where they made BH, AD, SchH1,2 and Korung while the bitch was pregnant, that is a bit much. Here you have people giving titling and KKL a dog priority over the health and well being of the mother and pups. Seems like it all goes back to big $$$ as you can get more for the pups with the mother titled/koered than not, at any cost.

This should not be allowed. In this case of the AD you mentioned they are in it for the money, if they put a pregnant female through this rigorous trialing. Her health apparently is not a factor to them.

IMO this is cruel.. JUST plan cruel! anybody that does this should get a good beating! Hope the PETA folks tracks each person that does this and to make their lives a living hell.

A club member of mine trialed a bitch when she was 6 weeks pregant. To be fair to him him thought she did not take. She did extremely well in the trial, with only problem being she struggled a little going over the wall. This girl liked it out there. She had a good litter with no problems. She did not appear to be pregant being a big framed bitch. Believe me, he would not have had her out there if he thought she was pregant. But the point is she had no problems, just another day at the office for her.
