I just wanted to share this video with everyone. I made it for Steve Miller of Kennel Vom Haus Miller as a thank you. He Judged our clubs' Affiliation Trial and also held a Helper Cert. the same weekend. He also spent a great deal of time with us training our dogs and sharing his knowledge. He's an all around nice guy:-) After months of attempting to correct my dogs "bumping" problem with long line/prong and helper stick corrections, we didn't seem to get anywhere. The long line corrections just confused him and the helper corrections just made him bring the fight harder. Steve saw us doing this and he stopped us and said I want to be the helper, he stepped in and came up with a solution. We began with handler corrections in front of the dog then also moved on to "time outs": platzing the dog, we both yelled at him, the helper dropped the sleeve and stick and we left him on a "time out" in the blind...all alone. Corrections and praises were given swiftly for each behavior. In three short days the problem greatly improved. We were all impressed. It just goes to show you there's more than a few ways to train a dog, and every dog is different. Take a look at the video-please note the sound has about a 3 second delay from the video-couldn't figure out how to fix it:-) http://www.dropshots.com/day.php?userid=102197&cdate=20060710&ctime=013537 PLEASE, do not post ANY negative comments about Steve or my pasty white legs. I am posting this to help others who may have the same issues with bumping, its not for every dog, but it worked for mine. Yours in the Sport, Melanie

The video is fine, this is good it is a problem for a lot of dogs. We have a male now who likes to do this as well he will run with it in his mouth and then bump you as well trying to bring the fight to you.

<<>>> Whether you like Steve or not he has been around Schutzhund world for a long time and brings a lot of experience to the sport. The dog is MUCH improved in his H+B after Steve corrected him. All about drive channeling, some dogs have very high drive that during H+B they go into conflict. Nice dog, a lot of drive. And the legs look fine, maybe a little more sun but their fine :) Uwe

Neat video Melanie, I'm sure Steve appreciated that. Trainers and helpers work very hard for little thanks, most of the time. Nice dog! molly

"LOL", I kept wondering why in the world the helper would give the grip after the dog went silent... :-) Nevermind...

<> Melanie, It's a breath of fresh air to see people respond positivly on this site. I like to see more training ideas/tips that others use to solve specific problems. Thanks again for the video. Uwe
