Rodd, You need to make out an AKC foreign registration application and send a copy of his pink papers with the transfer date on last page of pink papers. You also need to send a copy of SV bescheinigung which is a transfer paper listing the dog in your name. If the seller did not send you this bescheinigung you will have to contact Sabine Lieb at the SV office in Germany to get one as the AKC requires it for foreign dog apps. Mike

copies of your SV pink pedigree papers [with your signature usually in front of a notary public] are best natarized by a N.P.- don't forget the two picture requirement of your dog when registration AKC

I obtained my bescheinigung by sending my pink papers and application to USCA (United Schutzhund Clubs of America). The whole process may have taken 6 weeks. I then sent the Bescheinigung and a COPY of my pink papers to AKC with the application and 2 pictures and obtained the AKC registration. I'm sure you can send the paper work to the SV directly but if your papers are missing its your word against theirs. By using USCA you have a middleman with established ties to handle any issues. DO NOT EVER SEND ORIGINALS OF SV PAPERWORK TO THE AKC!!!!! They are extremely bad about losing stuff and then claiming they never received it. They KEEP the paperwork you send in as well, so I highly suggest sending copies. I have done this with every import I have purchased without incident. Rodd, here is a link to the page that you need to fill out: http://www.akc.org/pdfs/foreign.pdf You also need to have two standing photos, one from the side, one from the front. Remember to write the dog's name and SV registration number on the back of the photos. Send a COPY of each page of the SV registration and a COPY of the AKC Bescheinigung. If you do not have one, you can email SABINE at the SV. (her email: akc@schaeferhunde.de) She does speak English, so you should have no issues. You can pay by credit card ON that application paperwork, or you can send a check. Last I saw, the price was $50. *Do not forget that if you plan to breed your dog, you will also need AKC DNA registration. If your dog is already DNA registered in Germany, I believe there is a way to get the AKC to accept that, but you would have to speak with them directly, for I am not familiar with this process.* Send all of this in to the address listed on the last page of the AKC foreign dog registration application, which does give directions as well. I would suggest sending this via certified mail, return receipt requested so that you have proof that they received it. If you have not received your dog's registration within about 6 weeks, I would call and check on it. They're usually pretty good about getting it done rather quickly. If you have any other questions, please feel free to email me.
