I NEARLY GOT SCREWED! I saw a lovely puppy on this site, went to see her (there & back 900km)payed a deposit, went back a week later to pick her up (again-ther and back 900km) and her shots weren't done as promised (Rabies)!!!!!! If you are thinking of buying a puppy/adult GSD in Germany, make sure that the all shots are done and that you also get a European Vaccination Pass(blue). Got any questions???

You can get rabies shot for $15 USD, I would assume that in Germany, the price is nearly the same. For the dog/pup to be shipped, it must have proof of vaccinations. If you are picking it up, yes, a good idea to ask for the pet passport with all vaccinations in it.

If your only problem with the transaction was the lack of a rabies shot when you picked it up. That is not something to have a fit over. Just work it out on the scene (when you actually picked the puppy up) and deduct it from the purchase price. Sometimes people procrastinate and don't get things done. Not a big deal. Get the shot yourself especially if this pup was worth the traveling you did.

How old was the pup. Rabies are not usually done until the pup is 3 months old or older. You didn't give her age.

Our vet recommends waiting until closer to 4 months. As long as the mother had current vaccines and records is the main thing if the pup was under about 4 months.

She is 4 and a half months old!!!! If 900km in one day are nothing for you, "Do right and fear no one" then what can else can I say???? To go over the border the dogs rabies shot has to be at least 30 days old. I called the seller on wednesday to ask her if she'd got the shot done with the right pet passport, and she told me that it would be done tomorrow(thursday). As I got ther on sunday, she didn't even have the 2nd baby shot done forget about the rabies shot or pet passport!!! The seller wanted to give me a 100 Euro reduction to get the shot done at the border. I refused to do that because we had a deal and she didn't keep her part of it!

If the shot was done Thursday, and you came to pick up the puppy Sunday, it was only 3 days old, not 30. I guess it didn't really matter that much if you went to pick her up anyway??? I do not give my dogs rabies until they are at least 7-8 months old, if possible. And I recommend my puppy buyers to wait as long as possible too (as long as they feel comfortable to wait). It is for the sake of the dog!

Iggeli, driving 900 km (about 565 miles) is no big deal for us here in the U.S., and I am pretty sure the Australians see it that way as well. We just returned from a show which was 350 miles away (one distance). If I had the time and money, I could do that every two weeks without thinking twice. But of course, not everybody thinks like I do. My friends in Germany always act amazed when I tell them about the distances we drive to go to shows or take our females for breeding. You must be a person with principles to let a puppy go due to a missing rabies shot after driving this distance twice. Heads up to you!! While it is certainly a bad judgement call by the seller not to let you know before taking the second trip that the shots have not been done as planned I would have negotiated some other terms with her. At least you could have still gotten the puppy that way. Chris P.S. BTW, I never have rabies vaccination done until at least 6 months of age.

Iggeli, your eMail is from Switzerland. Then you KNOW that in Europe pups have to have their Rabies with 3 months. If this pup did not have it at 4 months, that should have been the first hint. Next, a quick call before you left for the second 900km trip to make sure everything is in order and done as discussed would have been common sense, and given you the second hint. And saved you a days worth of driving, time, gas, aggrevation. Don't really want to add to your current state of anger, but a bit more homework would have avoided this situation entirely.

iggeli, You never stated that you had to go across a border. Maybe if you calmed down from your mission to "get even" with those nasty breeders, you would have stated that. Also, without your temper tantrum, you might have did what D. H. stated. And like Makosh stated, the 30 day thingy wasn't even close. Why would you not want the 100 Euro's to get the pup vacinated at the border? I am in the U. S. and maybe I don't understand all of the ramifications of that but it seems to me to be an easy solution, and probably a little extra money in your pocket. Some people are not happy unless they are at war.
