I would also be interested in working with someone on a dog.
What advice do others have on finding someone to work with? Is it ok to try to attend some SchH events and watch and ask questions when they are done working their dogs? Where would you find a list of events like that?
Are there any specific books that are helpful on the subject?
Good Luck Mysti and thanks to anyone's input.

Oofing,
Yes, there are ways you can get more involved to learn. Go to the website for the United Schutzhund Clubs of America at:
www.germanshepherddog.com
Or look up the web site address for the WDA or the DVG. These are all Schutzhund organizations. Find a club in your area, or several, and yes, go, watch, and ask questions if you find them friendly. Do not be discouraged if they seem unfriendly and go to another club. There are also books and if you want to do so, when you have been to a few clubs and looked at the web sites, email me privately and I can provide a list of sources to find videos and books on the subject.
You can find a list of events on the web sites I mentioned.
Good luck. In the right environment, Schutzhund is a lot of fun for you and the dog. Do not be discouraged if you have trouble with one phase or the other. And do not believe everything you hear or read about the sport, the bloodlines (working bloodlines vs show lines etc).
Good luck.

Hey - K9 Helser is one of the best I have ever seen work a dog! Mysti, you would really be well off talking to him - he has very reasonable pricing, and will give you a good deal & your money's worth! I know this personally - he has worked all my dogs, and I have yet to be disappointed! Also - I have never seen dogs that love to work as much as his does. He is definitely a World Class trainer!

There are several people in the United States who have a great reputation in titling dogs. One must first find out exactly how many dogs people have tiltled and what there set up is! It must truly be about the dogs, I highly recommend Michael Kempkes or Leon Lucscz they both are in California. There are many people whom claim there prices are reasonable and work dogs very good but have never put a title on a dog!
Bottom line check them out first!

Leerburg has some great Schutzhund videos, they may be worth you taking a look at.
