Echo, I'm fooling with you, I just thought you knew better than to feed pro plan??? Purina is terrible! Keep doing what your doing! No living creature was designed to solely live on any food from a bag or can. Only Fresh wholesome food PROMOTES health, as oppossed to sustaining life. Just FYI for everyone. Look at what the serious breeders feed it certainly isn't purina anything!!!!!!! Everydog needs some amount of fresh food in thier diet, yes EVERY dog! So, all raw or good quality kibble with some fresh mixed in as a minimum. What ever works for your individual budget. Echo if you want some suggestions email me private and I will offer up some. respectfully yours

Most premium kibbles are "pretty good". You are unlikely to regret using Pro Plan, however you can do better. Consider some of the feeds based on fresh raw meat. Also check out www.abadyfeeds.com. They have very much relevant info on their site.

A couple of things I suggest reading before you purchase and feed ANY dog food...
http://www.api4animals.org/facts?p=359&more=1
http://www.iei.net/~ebreeden/kibble.html
And last, but not least:
http://www.fuzzyfaces.com/lfood2.html
I think this last bit of reading is what ultimately made me decide to be very picky in what is fed to my dogs and pups.
ProPlan would not be my first (nor last!) choice in food. I would stick with something made from human consumption grade food if you cannot feed raw (I personally do not have the time, and although they get raw a couple times per week, my dogs eat mainly high-quality kibble!) If you'd like some options, email me privately, and I can give you a list of foods I use, and WHY I use them. It would take up too much room on this website. You can also do a search on this website and find foods other people use.
Good luck!

Hi,
I don't know the first ingrediant in Pro Plan, but what seems like most of Purina's products don't start out with some kind of Meat as their first Ingrediant. I know some of you will laugh, but Mark Marone says that the first ingrediant in anything is usually the most potent ingrediant. He says that dogs and wolves aren't usually Veggie eaters, they are carnivorus animals, usually eating meat...raw, or cooked...its still usually meat. I personally don't like Purina because I have noticed that when the first ingrediant is either Corn, Corn meal, wheat, or some other non meat ingrediant, I have bad results with it. My dogs coats get a LITTLE flaky, and one of my dogs put on a TREMENDOUS amount of weight. Since then I have switched to Iams/Eukanuba, and the flakes and the weight have all disapeared, and I did NOTHING differently...Coincodence, I think not. Just my opinion though,
Krista

I have fed Purina Pro Plan and currently feed Purina ONE SS. Pro Plan was one of the first *premium* foods out there. I know a number of working dogs fed this and they seem to do very well.
First ingredientis meat. In my food it is salmon, not salmon meal, not salmon byproducts. They do seem to use more corn than other competition but I have not seen ANY problems with corn, even in my dog with allergies who cannot tolerate chicken and flaxseed (both IDd through elimination diet and both in the vast majority of pricey feeds)
I have fed raw. I have fed other foods. I think there is no great difference with most of the *good* foods unless your dog has an allergy to one of the ingredients.
I dare say that many of our dogs eat better than their owners.

We feed Purina One and have been very happy with it. We have tried many of the "premium" kibbles out there and the dogs just do not seem to do as well. We had major stool issues on RC. Now I have not been able to get my hands on Innova to try and the Canidae ingredient list didn't impress me so by no means have we tried everythig yet.
I am really happy with the coat and skin conditions of the pack. Stool is always going to be an issue with us but it is better than it has been.
Many of the higher quality kibbles I have tried just do not appeal to my bunch... the highest quality food does no good if it gets left in the bowl so the One seems to be the best choice for us.orri

I have fed Pro Plan for at least 10 years now and my dogs have been healthy with very nice coats. Personally, I think the Lamb and Rice is best... may not be as good as super-premium, human-grade foods, but my dogs still eat better, and more balanced than I do. Their stools are also very nice on this product. Dogs are omnivores... so it does not hurt to supplement their normal kibble with some meat and veggies occassionally... but the kibble takes the guesswork out of making their diet balanced.
