As we all know that the LE department has been slowly turning away from mals, dutch shepherd and their mixes and turning to towards labradors. What are the reasons for this and what is the solution to develop dogs better suited for these roles?

I had created a detailed insight into this that took me 30 mins to write up but an error came up and im not bothered to write it all up again, but have a listen to this video and comment what are your thoughts

With my department it's an intimidation thing. Floppy eared dogs are better received by the public, pointy eared dogs are scary.

video doesnot open, and the choice for labs has nothing to do with work quality, only feelings LOL

Agree it's the scary pointy ears thing, so more single-purpose odor detection dogs instead of dual purpose patrol and odor detection. Some odor detection dogs are also being trained for tracking and/or article location. I'd hate to have a tracking dog that wasn't trained and capable of apprehension, simply because the dog might be more likely to get hurt or killed by a suspect.

The only good thing is that less demand for GSD and Mals means the prices for GSD and Mals aren't as high as they otherwise would be (although still expensive).
