he's going back to Con. on Monday.  I sent a video of him to his owner and she was pretty stunned at his reaction to the slightest correction.  The owner purchased him sight unseen and had him sent straight to me.  I have no idea what she will do with him.  I had another trainer who works with strictly protection dogs come over and see him in action.  He figures the dog was trained very unfairly as a youngster and just reacts.  To bad for the dog though :(  Hope you are OK after your spill, that is pretty scary to wipe out like that!!!

Brynjulf- I'm sorry to hear that. Do you think this is a case where the dog could be retrained with a "purely positive" method (and lots of time)? Or is the dog too far gone? I suppose it depends on what the owner wants to do with the dog.

I'm fine after my fall. At least Senta wasn't there; last week, I slipped on the ice and fell on her- she's still pissed at me. :)

I'm sure he could be trained with 100 positive but what happens when he needs correction in his protection work?  For example he doesnt out and the helper gives him a lil tap with the second collar?  Who has the time to mess around with a dog like that.  I spent 6 week in the getting to know you, i am the bringer of cookies phase before even putting a collar on him.  The other problem is he has very little prey drive sooo food and toys are not motivators.  I guess if you had all the time in the world it would be ok.  But people pay me for results and they expect them. (rightly so) At least i was honest with her, the next trainer might not be.  And the breeder definatly was not!  The protection trainer said even he didnt want a dog like that to have around.  That says it all to me right there.

I thought you said you could fix any problem with a gentle leader and a clicker. :)

The walker comment smarted. My dad has terminal cancer and none of us noticed that Senta stole his walker at Christmas- leaving my dad trapped in his chair. Eee! He was mad (but my mom found it hilarious).

Uh huh.  How on earth do you think i could use a clicker?  I startle at loud noises remember :)
Sorry about the walker I figured it would keep you upright on the ice.  Senta was just trying to lighten the mood of the day :)  Dogs know these things!
