I have read this book by ERNEST HART "The German Shepherd Dog" the section about Genetic Heritage in America... Story, I coined started from a bitch that "Germany refused to part with..." Vicky v. Bern (the owner refused to sell at any price) who with Alex Ebershacken sired Dachs v. Bern... to continue Dachs sired both Pfeffer v. Bern and Odin BuseckerSchloss .
Pfeffer grew up in the U.S.A. and only returned to Germany during the 1936 Sieger show to meet in head-to-head competition with Odin BS (a good but light pigmented sable dog but with over aggressive temperament) Pfeffer had the desired Black saddle and RED tan pigment somewhat refined similar to American Showlines. Odin was awarded V1 before the siegershow and was being trained for work compared to Pfeffer growing up as homedog the American way...
To coincide... this was the year when the Rittmeister Stephanitz passed away from a lingering illness and GERMANY really needed the dollars to rise from the ravages of the WWII ... you can see the quality of the dogs and according to the book I've read some of the not so good dogs were either sold or put down just to maintain only the good dogs FOR BREEDING FOR SALE...
Was this really the time the Great Division took place??? (not anymore seeing BuseckerSchloss breeeding in the showlines and instead concentrating on the working TEMPERAMENT and performance dogs...) Similar to EAST and WEST uniting together as one Germany... we hope in seing just one German Shepherd Dog... one in Beauty and Performance... not in exagerrations// What will you do to contribute to the breed??? Breed and Sell and Money .. Is that All???

I wont get into the debate, but that is a great book, taught me a lot when I was getting involved in the breed. Winifred Gibson Stricklands books also gives a very unbiased view of the genetic split between american and german dogs.
