It is an umbilical hernia, very common in puppies and not really harmful, though vets generally prefer to operate just in case it gets punctured or strangulated. It is a quick and simple operation.

It appears to be a umbelical hernia.  If it will become a problem or not in the future depends on if it is reducible or not....you will need to see your vet for that...it's a hands on thing.  If that just appeared 'overnight,' I would see your vet sooner, location never rules out other tricky diseases.

Free vet advise, take it for what it's worth.

Yes it looks to me like an Umbelical hernia... My female pup had a small one, she was 8wks old and the hole in the abdominal wall was still open.  My vet told me to just keep pushing it in several times throughout the day.  In about a month it was all gone, as the hole fully closed "the stuff" ended up staying in.

I am pretty sure they are not normally painful.

Umbilical Hernia

Not a fault either.  view my site. www.vondersauk.com va3 enschi von der piste trophe has one the size of a large grape. No pain. i have had pups with them no pain. If to big need to be fixed surgically but it's simple procedures.

Umbilical hernia - no major thing most of the time - quite often nothing in there but a little wad of fatty tissue.

These often come from the mother getting just a little too zealous in chewing off the unbilical cord.  They generally don't even appear sensitive.  I've had a few bitches that had them and had no trouble weven with a belly stretched full of puppies.

Sometimes, umbilicus is confused with an umbilical hernia. You will not know for sure until the vet looks at it. One way to tell for sure which it is would be to put the pup on his back, and GENTLY and slowly push on the "bubble". If the bubble colapses, that is most like an umbilical hernia. If it is solid, it is umbilicus with some fluid around it (translation: outtie belly button)/ I have been told several times by vets when I have received a puppy that is has an umbilical hernia only to determine it is umbilicus. I do have a pup currently with a hernia, which on its own has diminished and is nearly healed. However, it is being supervised by my vet.

Get the vet to fix it. It costs less than $100.00.  also ask your breeder if any of the other pups had one...if more than one pup in the litter has it, it can be determined to be a hereditary condition and u dont want to breed.   But in order to not worry, let the vet fix it...

Not all of them are able to close.
