I have done neither, but on another thread , statement of Mondio 1 is harder than SchH3.  I do not think I could stand up to schutzhund so I was curios about other sport trials for german shepherds...and since my friend is all about Schutzhund , I would like to hear about Mondio !.

I don't a lot about Mondio Ring, but I do know that it is more intense than Schutzhund. Here are the rules for Mondio Ring: www.usmondioring.org/Brevet_RULES_6_1_06.pdf at the bottom of their main page (www.usmondioring.org/), titled as it gives a description of the sport. I also like www.lotti-fx.co.uk/hdts/mondio_ring.htm as well.

Mondio looks fun IMO, I would love to see it in person.

Forgive me, but it seems like you are into Mals & Mondio not Shepherds & schutzhund.  Did you hang a right when you should have turned left & ended up on the wrong board??!!!

I have a german shepherd,,,you cant do Mondio with a shepherd?

by Jeff Oehlsen on 10 July 2007 - 04:07

You can do Mondio with a GSD. You SHOULD do mondio with a GSD. You can think I am this gigantic asshole, just as long as you go out and give Mondio a try. It is a lot of fun. LOL

I had a dumb ass tell me once, GSD's can't do Ring. Granted the big guys would have trouble past a MR1 doing the jumps and stuff but there are gobs of small agile GSD's out there if Ring is your bag. Don't ever let anybody tell you, you can't do something. I would rather watch the Ring Sports anyday over Sch. The people seem a bit nicer too.

I like dogs that work. It makes no difference to me if it is a GSD Mal or standard poodle, as long as it does the work. If it is really good at it, then it is even better. So stop your snobbing. LOL

For the record I don't know a whole hell of alot about Mondio but here's my OPINON!

1. Okay, M1 is alot harder than SchH3 Protection...Absolutely!!!

2. There are many many SchH3 dogs that would get run off the field in Mondio (especially those of the non-working variety...sorry show folks).   The helpers "bring-it" alot more convincing than SchH helpers....especially club level SchH.

BUT!!!!

I think SchH OB is "harder" in terms of number of excersises and desired precision, you said it yourself  "crazy perfect OB"

AND

You guys don't have to do TRACKING... AT ALL... that is 1/3 of the time I spend training my dog!!!  Maybe even more because it's our weakest phase, I hate tracking, lol, maybe I should do Mondio! lol.

The versatility required for SchH--Training a dog EVENLY in ALL three phases to competition level is a difficult task in itself!

I'm sorry but saying MR1 is harder than SchH is like comparing apples to oranges at best!

Regards,

Melanie

You definately should do Mondio, as I think you would enjoy it a lot more. It is a challenge for sure. I think that you will find out how different it is, and why I am saying what I am saying. I have done both, so I guess it is now up to you to do some Mondio.
