Beauceron At Westminster 2009 :o) - Page 1

My dog "Leo" just won the breed at Westminster this week.  I wanted to share the link for breed showing and Herding Group video as well.  He is from our working lines and we've been in the breed for about 20 years.  Beaucerons should be confident, energetic and stable dogs and many are :o)  One must be selective when breeding like with any other breed.  I saw that someone posted a photo of my "Leo" at 12 months old under a topic regarding structure (comparing Beaucerons with GSDs).  Now he's 5 years old :o)

I read through the posts "2008 Westminster Beauceron" and it prompted me to post.

Congratulations on the breed win at Westminster. How many were entered? Odd that you would come on a gsd board to trumpet your breeding program. :-) I have always liked the "look" of the breed, cropped ears notwithstanding. I have had club members with Beaucerons, and know of a few others who tried schutzhund with Beaucerons. One of those is an excellent helper who tried repeatedly to find a suitable dog. It is not easy to find a dog of any breed that is suitable to do well in schutzhund. I don't know of any Beaucerons that have ever obtained schutzhund titles in the US. As most of the ones I know or have heard of are from you or Karla, can you tell me whether you know of any Beaucerons who have earned schtzhund titles? I don't intend or want thia misinterpreted as a slam or criticism. While I have known some of the breed that simply could not succeed at schutzhund, they were great and well-loved companions who, in at least a couple cases, also showed themselves fully capable of protecting their handler/owner.

Congratulations to you - if I were no longer interested in GSD's the Beauceron is a dog I would certainly consider!  I wish you continued success with LEO...

Not so odd that I would post here as I read all the negative comments under Westminster Beauceron 2008.  It was brought to my attention about all those posts so I visited.  I wanted to put something positive and true up about the breed.   I sold a male Lutin des Ombres Valeureux to Ann Malburg of CO.  She took him to SchH III.  There's been some titled in Ring as well so far from our breeding the highest is Ring II and he's going for FRIII this year.  Others with lesser Schutzhund and Ring titles.  I breed for work and temperament, but don't breed the volume of dogs as the show breeders.  Also, Beaucerons are just rarer overall in the USA than other breeds.

Hi Debbie - I see Ann Malberg occasionally, if I can find the time to go to her club's trials (I live in CO also). I'll ask her about Lutin, would be interested to hear about her experience with him.....

  Great to hear that there has been one titled.   I will pass that on to others who also were interested in the breed, but unable to find one suitable for schutzhund.  I know a helper who will be very interested.     With the insurance companies coming up with "verboten" breed lists  and gsds being on some of them, it would be nice to have "alternatives" that they've never heard of lined up!


I have a friend who listed her Rottie as a "Roman Cattle Dog" on an insurance questionnaire.   Historically, it might be accurate, but....

I had the pleasure of meeting a Beauceron when I was in college. A gentleman in North Georgia owned one.  As they are a rare breed to begin with, it was definitely awesome to see one in North Georgia.  Wonderful dogs indeed.  Congrats to Leo!

Nia, there was a Beauceron pup at the club Sunday.  8-month old male, georgous.  She didn't work him, just came to watch.  I got to play with him a bit.  Sounds like she'll be back.....
