Sorry I have disappeared- still having trouble coping with the loss of Missie T and every time I see a dog with he r eyes and soul straring back at me from behind bars in a shelter, at risk for euthanasia, I melt down :( Casey James was recently altered and it turned into a nightmare. Poor boy has had so many surgeries, for his neck, his elbows, and this was supposed to be a non life threatening procedure. The vet didnt tie off a blood vessel properly and his scrotum swelled to the size of 2 grapefruits. He had such a bad hematoma, blood was oozing through his skin in his groin :( He had to have a second surgery, the following day, to completely remove the scrotum. He looks like he was run over by a mack truck.. He is healing now, but it was bad- very very bad :(

What type of service will the dog be expected to provide?
I would recommend that "your friend" be more active in looking for this dog. If I thought I might have a candidate available, I would not be doing the placement through any third party. I would need to deal with the handler directly - otherwise it seems to sound like someone poking around for a pet dog for themselves. Your efforts may very well be legitimate and it a nice way of helping a friend - but perhaps you see the issue.
Good luck in your search.

I've had several of these requests in the past week. All looking for a service dog prospect for a friend, and wanting them for nothing.
I always suggest that they can meet the dog and then say that I will donate the dog to them thru a service dog organization. They never call back.

I didn't say that everyone is a scam, but that it is happening. Just today I received 2 requests - one with MS the other with PTSD.
I offered to contact any organization that they wish to work with, one hung up on me, the other said I was crazy to even suggest to work within an organization.
