Remember that its not just the two that are breeding that decides the results of the litter....Its also the parents, grand parents, great grand parents and so on farther back that decide the out come....JMO

Ok,

His Sire (dad) was straight back GSD and his mother was roach back GSD, IF crossing this Male back with showline a roach back female that her bloodline is only roach back.

Why would you want to breed the dog with a Roach-backed female ??

by SitasMom on 27 February 2011 - 05:02

breeders tend to breed similar dogs becasue the results tend to be more predictable.

by breeding a "straight back" to a "roach back" you will most likely get both straight and roaches in the same litter.

do you have stack photos and pedigrees that you'd like to share?

Genetic testing and pedigrees come in where?

This is exaggeratedly simplified, but if your 'straight-back' male had a 'roach-back' mother, then chances are if you bred him to a 'roach back' female from a long line of  'roach back' dogs, the 'roach back' genetics will have the advantage as far as the percentage of the genes available to the pups...i.e., you'll have three parts 'roach back' genetics to one part 'straight back' genetics.

Because I use my dog as a stud for customers.

Groovy.  BTW the term is "Old Fashioned" not Old Fashion.  Could you regale us with your definition of "Old Fashion Straight Back" German Shepherd?  Is it kinda like a Silver Backed Gorilla?

I have found the grand parents (3rd generation) to be very dominant in most cases.   So also look at the grand parents, particularly the grand dam.  If you like her you will probably see a lot of her in the puppies.  Best of luck  Nan
