Lately, my 10.5 year old female has been eating a lot of grass and not really eating her ration each day for the last couple of days. Does anyone have any insight into this behavior?

I would change her food to a "Senior" food. It contains more fiber, which older dogs need to digest. They have a lot more problems passing stool. Chris

Lots of dogs like to eat grass but based on your old girls age and the fact she has not been eating her food, I would seriously consider a geriatric vet exam and bloodwork, etc...

I have her on Flint river senior Plus.

Usually they eat grass because of some stomach disorder, but nothing serious, I feed with raw food and from time to time my dogs do the same, some times they trough out the grass together with what is left in the stomach. Give her some 1/3 or 1/2 of yogurt without sugar that will clean everithing up.

My old dog started eating more grass at the end of the Summer. My homeopathic vet suggested adding fresh sauerkraut in her food. Believe it or not she loved the kraut. Did not seem to hurt her in the least and from all I have seen and heard about sauerkraut, it is very healthy. Can't say it reduced her eating grass, but the grass freezes in Winter. Sunshine

What does the sauerkraut do?? I have done yogurt in the past. I may try it. definitely doing the blodwork, etc on Wednesday. Thank all

Sauerkraut is an excellent source of Vitamin C, is a natural diuretic and laxative and is supposed to be an antioxident. Serving it raw was to be substitute for grass. Like I mentioned, she loved it. Figured, if she liked it the way she did, there had to be something in there that was good for her. She gobbled it down.

Cool, I'm going to try it.

Doomsayer, Here is a product that I use. Not plugging the company but this stuff is good. Good for the stomach. I've used it for dogs that need to be switched over to new foods fast and even for dogs with EPI. It's called FORCO, originally made for horses the product is fantastic for dogs and I've even used it on myself when my gut hurts too. Http://www.forco.com This stuff is fantastic! Mel
