I have a 5-month old female purebred german shepherd dog that I bought a couple weeks ago in south georgia. She is already doing bite work. IE , rags, balls, tugs and small 3 handle pillow. Is this a good thing ? Should I wait ? Thing is , she is really good at it....When I put on leather gloves , she acts as if she is nutts. She attacks my right wrist and hand , while wearing the gloves...

It depends on what you want to do with your pup. In any case just grabbing things is not bitework.

Ahh, but it is. Buitwork has to start somewhere and the rag, tug and pillow are all foundationwork.

Ahh but if there is no focus, purpose or direction then it is not!

Well let's hope there is. You used the word "if". I'm guessing the pup is being worked by a helper. Usually a person asking these questions has no idea to go out and buy a bite pillow.

You used the word "usually". Is it me or is this conversation getting weird?

You used the word "me", you selfish bastard!

5 months is usually the time a dog will start teething. I would be carefull not to do much in the way of bitework during this time as it can be uncomfortable for the dog. I would break the habit now of the dog biting you before things get worse.  JMO

excellent time to work on focus....commitment...targetting..retrieving...carrying. Not a lot of pulling while teething if the pup complains. I've seen pups teething and never have a problem gripping. Depends on the pups pain thresh hold:-)
