If you sold a dog what would be the reasoning for taking that dog to a vet he has never seen for a health certificate? Why would you not use the dogs regular vet who has a history with the dog? Vickie

I suspect this is a loaded question with some kind of a history but I will reply anyways.  I usually use the "close" (20 miles) vet for routine shots and health certs and my other vet for most other things.  He is 50 miles away.

So yes, most of my vet records will be 50 miles away for most of the dogs but I would not have a problem getting a health cert at the close vet.  I would just have the other vet provide them with the shot records.

Vicki,T
The only reason I would do that is if my regular vet wasn't available and there was a immediately need for the certificate right  away, such as,  I got to get it today, because the dog is being shipped during the night or early in the morning....

Another reason would be, if the person buying the dog gave me a written request  to which vet they wanted and they were paying for it.....Other than these two reason, I can't think of anything else...

Pretty much what everyone else has said, to which I would like to add : Often times my vet has a waiting list of people to get in 1.5 weeks long. It has crossed my mind that on on occasiona or another I may have to get  a HC from another vet. Luckily enough I've spent enough that if I REALLY need it, like yesterday, I'll sit in the waiting room for 4 hours or so until he has 2 seconds to do it.

I have 3 vets.....

#1 is for shots, worming and other regular stuff
#2 is for complicated stuff - broken toe nail, impalement, diabetes counseling.
#3 is for any reproduction and ofa stuff

the last time I shipped I called each for there regular charge.
$25 for vet #1
$75 for vet #2
$105 for vet #3

Vet #1 wasn't available so I called around for another affordable vet.
I brought my file with the dog's records and got the certificate....for only $17.50

Could economics be the answer?

Dog goes to cheapest, closest, fastest vet for a health cert. A "history" with the vet is hardly necessary for a health cert.

Can't you and AKVeronica leave this pissing match over Athos and his heart murmur private instead of trying to drag the entire board into the mess?

by bazza on 15 February 2011 - 22:02

Psycht,  agree 100%!!!

Has nothing to do with any pissing match. Is there something you know that I am clueless about? I have a vet I use for regular stuff(vaccinations and the like) then I have one I prefer for emergency stuff....... solely a question out of curiosity so don't jump to conclusions here please. Vickie

Just be patient Vicki, it will soon be the past once people see that "IT" is NOT  the point in your post....

In their defense, at first I thought the same thing, but decided to comment on just the question you asked and not what MIGHT be behind the question....Give it time.....
