when my pup goes #2 it's normally in 2 squats.  the first squat is a normal firm stool the 2nd squat is smaller and somewhat softer stool like pudding.  is this normal?  Use orijen, and solid gold treats, had stool checked all clear.

Has anyone experienced this?

I've experienced this in the past, but not while feeding Orijen.  I had pretty much the same issues with my dog when I was feeding TOTW.  On top of that, he'd get a completely loose stool every 4 or 5 days.  He's now on Acana and his stools are consistently firm and compact.  It may be that the formula you're feeding is causing a reaction of some kind.  Stick with the same brand, but try changing formulas.  IMO, there's not a better kibble on the market, but each dog is different.  Try switching formulas first, then go to another quality brand if the problem persists.

*This is based on the fact that he's been vet-checked for any other prolems.  Was he tested for allergies?

parasite checked all ok but not for allergies.  I'll switch formulas and take it from there - thank you!

You're welcome.  There are many issues that cause loose stool, so make sure if it continues, you have him seen and tested.  You should know if the food is the problem, but keep in mind, a change in diet will cause loose stool.  Mix it with his existing diet at first and slowly make the change.  After being on the new food for about a week, it should clear up if that was the problem.

I had the same issue with the Orijen, I feed him the Chicken, Egg and Fish formula, which Orijen just changed the formula to 80% / 20% so that could be why he may be having issues. My Male had the same problem.  I switch him to the Acana Grasslands which is made by Orijen and his stools are perfect now.

Drake's been on Acana for about six months, Orijen before that (I like the quality of the Acana and it's a bit cheaper), so I never dealt with the puppy formulas.  I'd ask at the point of purchase for a list of the formulas that are available.  Ask if they'd consider ordering a specific formula if they don't carry the one you want.  Good luck and keep us posted.
