Hi,
New here and looking for advice. Have been talking to a broker, I'll call person "X", in US about buying a trained GSD bitch in Czech Republic. Later he tells me the bitch in Slovakia
I noticed the same bitch on another person's website so I contacted person "Y" in Slovakia about the same bitch and asked the same questions.
"X" in the US and "Y" in Slovakia have quoted me prices for the bitch in US dollars (both not including shipping) that is more than $3000 difference (the person in US quotes a price that is more than $3000 higher than the person in Slovakia). Is something fishy going on? How do I get to the bottom of this?
I have talked with "X" via phone and email. References for "X" have had pleasant transactions. Just started email communication with "Y".
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Dmitriev

you are paying for the person in the US's time and effort in getting the dog here.

So this is not a sign of a scam?

depends on who the broker is? if it is someone say Prager (alpinek9) or Eurosport, then no scam. you have to expect the middle man to make a little $$ for the transaction and it is always cheaper to go directly to the breeder/owner when purchasing, but not everyone speaks the same language ect.
these people put alot of time traveling to both countries, eval. dogs, and many more hours with phone calls and emails, they should be paid for their time.

I know alot of dogs coming over from Europe have no guarantee's. but people like Prager place their own guarantee's on these dogs, and take risks doing so. that should also be figured in to the price

you might also double check to make certain that each quote is in USD or Euro......its a very common mixup.

Actually Hans states and (Jinopo's website as well states this) the prices are of the dogs are the same no matter if you go through Hans or not.

I'm sorry but $3000 difference is crazy and I would go directly with the breeder or find a new breeder.
Is no way you can justify to me a $3000 difference. Didn't say $30 or $300 but he said $3000. Hell no.

personally I agree ace952, but alot of people are willing to pay the added fee's, no matter the price so they do not have to do any of the work themselves.

I agree with Acer and Uber Land. Three grand is a scam IMO. I have imported two dogs in the last year without the added fees. There are several trustworthy folks on this board, located in other countries, willing to assist for much less.
Some options include:
Find a trustworthy breeder; you can request input about specific breeders on here and generally receive some objective input. Another option: find another broker (again there are a few on here) and inquire about their fees up front.
You could also share on here what qualities your are seeking in a dog. Be specific and see if anyone on here knows of one available that meet your criteria.
Take your time and do research and then do some more. Do not get into a rush.
Good luck.
