Hi All,
I need a clarification, in my tenure of GSD'S - I observed that most of the dogs with big long croups have hips as fast normal, why does it happen. I request all the veterans to come forward in letting their views.
Thanks in advance,
Quick.

There is no direct correlation.
HD is polygenetic problem with irregular pattern. There are many dogs which are long and sloapy with great hips and vice versa.
If that is what you observe then it is just a coincidence.
I am not saying that some lines with such structure do not have lesser hips. However there are different reasons for that which may be part of the line but I do not believe it is caused by long backs per se. If that would be the truth then all dogs with long back should have this problem and progressively longer and more sloping back would equal worse hips across all lines->( not truth) . Nobody really knows particular details which cause bad hips. If we would know what structural characteristic cause this problem and then we could eliminate such structural characteristic and subsequently better the hips. However that does not work.

Thanks Prager, that was really informative. you must be right it might be a mere coincidence of my observation of the dogs with with big long croups as fast normal.
Anyways, thanks a lot
