Gee no bitters, shocking!

WTF is wrong with you west coast people? PSA was pretty booming here a few years back. Now it is dying out west and booming in the midwest and east.

Get off your ass and train people!

People can't afford to throw trials if no one shows up.

I would hope that at least a few people would drive out and see what it's all about. It's a lot of fun and it is also an EXCELLENT test of a dog's mettle.

PS. 4Pack, I think right now they're all outside hoping for boobie sightings. Sigh. Oh wait, I mean  they're training!

Why not tell people what PSA is.  According to another post it is a dying activity.

Thanks

We tell people what it is all the time. It stands for Protection Sports Association, and it involves obedience and bitework under heavy (@#$%!) distraction (that will be the death of my girl and me in the OB phase). The scenarios (patterns?) change up frequently although the requirements do not.

Here is a link to a video. Check out the numerous videos to the right of your monitor for more after that. Much funner to watch than Schutzhund and much harder to title.

Wish someone would start a club here in the san joaquin county.. I would for sure train in it..Its too hard with kids and a 2 1/2 hr drive each way to a club..I think thats what stops some people from doing it...But it for sure looks fun!!

Well, there's someone in Fresno, but that's probably not a whole lot better.

Really???  Much harder to title?  Based on what?  The fact that decoys run over dogs and injure necks and spines?  How many dogs have you trialed in SchH at Regional and National Championships and "V'd" all 3 phases?  I'm giving PSA two more years tops before it fades like all the other basic obedience and bite work organizations that have popped up in the last 20 years.  I'm thinking of starting my own sport right here on my little yellow pad,,,,,,,,got my pencil in hand and I'm making up some rules.  Yep, I'm the judge and jury and my rules are are THE rules.  I'm the founder, I'm the master, no one knows how to train but me,,,,,BTW, want to buy a puppy?  My dogs are the only ones that can do my sport.

You can train with Schutzhund helpers if you find some who are willing and have the equipment.  Fortunately I train with some who are excellent.  The closest PSA club is 4 hours from me so I figure out what I have to do and how to do it.  Will I advance slower than others who have a club..  of course but for me it's a journey.  I got hooked on the sport in 2005 and, for me again of course, nothing else compares.   The lower levels test the dog and without the right dog it won't happen.  The upper levels test the handler.  There are more skills to learn and it's never boring.  Trials are fun, have a positive atmosphere and everyone supports everyone else.  There is a camaradarie at the trials and also after trials on the messageboard that I haven't observed elsewhere.  AND... you don't have to count steps or remember what those darn horns mean.   oh...AND it's fun having a backyard that looks like a Toys-R-Us store exploded!

Here is a video with clips from training yesterday and today.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCJIkD3fl3c

I'm entering my girl (3 years old) in the Chicago trial Saturday for a PDC (Protection Dog Certificate) and we're working on her committment to the bite. All dogs must start at that level now.   Her foundation was with a sleeve so we're focusing now on the suit which she prefers.  The PDC has a sleeve division so even if your dog has no suit experience, you could support the trial by entering in that division.  If you have any interest in it at all get out there and see what it's all about ....you'll have a fun day!
