Hello everyone.
My pups height at 11 months is at 63.5 cm. He is grandson of Quantum Arminius, Ustinov's son. Is he doing well for his age or should he be more? Can anyone please tell about Quantum and Ustinov line males how soon or how late they develop.
Your input will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Bobby

My vet told me that their Growth Plates close at appox. 15 months. Based on that, he still has a little more growing to do. The desired height for a Male is 24 - 26 inches. Your dog is within the Standard now .... he is in the middle at 25 inches.

There is no set period for growth plates to close. Some dogs gain no height after they reach 9 months, and some continue to grow until 18 months or so. I had a male who reached his adult dimensions by the time he was 8 months old, and another who took until about 16 months to reach his adult frame.
Your dog may grow some more, or he may stay where he is, at a nice medium size - only time will tell Remember, bigger is not necessarily better.
Also, the German standard for adult male GSDs is for the height to be between 60-65 cm. That translates to between 23.6 inches and 25.6 inches. A dog that is 26 inches (66 cm) is actually considered a cm oversized per SV rules, but is still allowed to be classified as KKL 1. Anything taller than that, and the dog is supposed to be dropped to KKl 2 for being oversized (although there seem to be a lot of magic rulers in Germany, if you catch my drift).
