Woops!
Mistakenly created a topic instead of raising the dead. Let me try this again...

Just over a year ago MVF created a Topic entitled, * OT The new "black" is "socialism" * in which his opening post went something like this:
"Every generation finds a new euphemism for its hate. Has it by now become sadly obvious that the new way to abuse a black man in the White House is to call him a socialist?
I am an economist who has studied the political economy of socialism in some depth, and Obama barely qualifies as a liberal, much less a socialist. The left is angry with him for his centrism, and the right has taken on the affect of the 18th and 19th century screaming tent revivalists. But instead of calling him the devil, or calling him the N-word, the new N-word is "socialist."
If he even had an inkling of socialism in his platform or attitude, I suppose one could tolerate it. But a government option so that the poorest 1/6 can have some form of rationed health care is not socialism -- unless we are so far gone that all of the civilized world outside the US is socialist. Isn't it obvious to everyone that this is just racism, very thinly disguised? (Of course it is not obvious to racists! I am asking the rest of you.)
**
Some people are freaking out that the children of undocumented aliens may get free health care under the new plan. Not only is this not true (you have to be a paid member of the alternative health care plan to get care -- illegals will have to continue to get care in the ER as they do now) but aren't we ashamed to scream about kids getting emergency health services? When my wife was traveling in Thailand, her son was in an accident. Thai doctors and nurses and EMT folks all rushed to his aid and kept him alive -- and eight hours later charged her $20! When I had an accident in New Zealand, a public clinic took me in and a doctor and two nurses worked on me for two hours -- and apologized because they had to charge me $35! Why aren't Americans ashamed by the way we treat foreigners in need of care on our shores? I just don't get it. Is it just another form of racism?"
I am not really trying to revive a dead thread but I think that MVF made some good observations in this short post.
Props to MVF!

I honestly don't believe that you can compare emergency health care for "tourists" (individuals that are bolstering a nation's economy) to healthcare being provided for illegal immigrants (a drain on any government's economy and resources).
To me, this is EXACTLY the same as comparing/CONFUSING legal immigration with illegal immigration. If you lived in a border state, I guarantee you that you would feel much differently.

I just hope like hell that we make it through this admisistration...He will have plenty of time to ruin everything the "American" people have worked so hard for...for so long...
And even Democrats have to agree that he's bringing them down too...
But of course the American people have no one to blame but themselves...they voted him into office...So foolish can we be...
In the past...No matter whether or not I voted for the President elect or not...I have ALWAYS stood behind our new leader...But this time is certainly of different times...
