Throughout the summer we have brushed our GSD often, because of course, it is heavy shedding season. However, she has lost some top coat because of the amount of brushing we have done. Just wondering, will her thick, dark top coat grow back as we get back into fall and winter or did we brush too much? Thank you.

One more question, her ears are up (she is just about a year old) but they are not very firm. They are always up, but when she plays or runs, ect. they get pretty floppy. Wil they firm up as she gets older or will they always be like that? Thanks for your help!

At a year, the ears are what they are.  Nothing short of surgery would change 'em.
Is it that they're floppy, or that she often lays them back?

Her hair will grow back in.  It'll take some time.  Take it easy on her coat with the brushing.  She's young, why not get her used to the vacuum hose instead, and try to make brushing more "cost effective"?

The ears are up all the time, just get pretty flimsy when she's running or playing hard. So I guess, she kind of has "friendly ears".

The ears will be what they will be, thats in the bloodlines.
Forget surgery....Jesus.

The coat if healthy will not be harmed by brushing, depending on what your using and how often.

Diet is important for the coat, also moderation.
Too much is as bad as too little.

Baths, brushing, supplements, can be overdone in my opinion.

Try an egg once in a while added to the diet and a can of salmon is something I add on a regular basis.

Keep it simple.

Shedding is something we all deal with so your not alone there.

Moons.

I would suggest using a vacuum next time because it sounds like u are a little rough while brushing.  also some olive oil in the food will help with the coat.

Don't use a shedding blade or furminator, they can cut top coat. Instead use a rake which will remove undercoat and keep top coat intact. Vitamin e is great for skin and coat.
