 Hi All:

Mid-Ohio Schutzhund is hosting a training weekend for all MER members. The objectives of the weekend are:

1. To share training knowledge within the region
2. To emulate trial conditions by bringing a large group of people together
3. To work on new helpers/new fields
4. To learn from and support our world team members.
5. To prepare for the upcoming MER Regionals and 2010 USA Nationals
6. To have fun

DETAILS:

1. FREE to all MER members
2. Nominal donation from non-MER members
3. August 14th - 15th
4. In Columbus, Ohio
5. In conjunction with the training weekend, we'll also host a trial helper seminar/classification with Nate on Saturday the 14th.
6. Food and drink will be sold on premises

We're still working on the helper roster . . . more info to follow.

Email me at jimalloway@gmail.com if you are interested in attending. I'll send out field address/hotel info early next week.

Thanks.

I am a  non-members new to the sport and live within about a two hour drive of Columbus. Would this be something for a newbie to attend?......and are we to bring our dog along too?.......Please let me know what you think?

                                                                                Thanks, Ruger1

Ooops just noticed the e-mail for contact info.....I would appreciate any opinion as to whether or not this type of event is beneficial to someone new to the sport....I had something else to attend that weekend however, I would be willing to cancel those plans to attend this if it would be beneficial to me.        Any opinions welcome.......

Rug, I would definitely go. I personally wouldn't take the puppy. Sure, it ould be great for him,but you have way mote to learn than him. I would just go and watch/listen to all the handlers and trainers. You still have to use your BS filter. Not everything you will hear or see is worthwhile. I would definitely go, if I were you. Anyone within driving distance that is curious about the sport should go.

Jim Alloway's club is the main host of this event in essence. As many of you know, they hosted the 2010 Working Dog Championship and did a superb job. They are always very detail oriented and leave nothing to chance. There is a great group of people there very dedicated to running and hosting professional events.

This will be a fantastic event with a helper seminar, and lots and lots of good training time on top notch training and trial helpers. It will surely be an awesome opportunity for a large group of people to come together and get some great training in, while sharing knowledge with old and new friends alike.

I encourage everyone who is involved in schutzhund or wants to be involved more to come and attend this fantastic event for the Mideast Region of Schutzhund USA!

Ruger-

I would definitely take the puppy, for the socialization and road-warrior experience, but not work him in protection. At 4 mos., he is doubtless teething, so no protection work. Also, I am a firm believer that pups, once started, need consistentcy, correct work with the same helper (or two) until they understand what's expected of them, rather than exposure to a variety of helpers and their individual styles. Plenty of time for that later. As long as your pooper-doodle is current on all his vaccinations, meeting lots of people in a dog-friendly environment is an opportunity that doesn't come up every day.

One more note- Be careful about letting him approach other dogs. Look up Nate when you get there. He will doubtless know dogs you can socialize your pup with safely, and you couldn't ask for a better hand to guide you.

HAVE FUN!
