I doubt the AKC would allow this to be registered in any way... but what do yall think about actual tattoos done on dogs for identification purposes.  How common is this?

by Sangreinu on 27 July 2010 - 06:07

.... for the record im not talking about this kind of thing as i think its just wrong.....

I don't see the advantage over the basic serial number tattoo.

That cat is strange.  Poor thing had to be put to sleep for a long period in orde to have been done that way.

Good Lord, they are animals not decoratons.

I would think that the number and letter system is easier to identify the owner/breeder, rather than a symbol, but I guess it depends on the uniqueness.
I have seen symbol "branding" on hunting dogs and the hunters must have their own registry or something.  Some of them look weird, like a triangle inside a square, for example..and I would think they also have to send a picture in to their registry.
Guess I'm just old fashioned, prefer the numbers and letters as well as a microchip.

The Hello Kitty tattoo is okay

But the other is not my cup of tea!

Remember police depts tell you to id your valuable items at home with a permanent mark and I am also under the notion we  may need to start putting a small tatoo on our kids before long like a leaf or a flower on the  ankle to id them immediately. So many kidnappers change the hair and physical things and I guess a tattoo can be changed also.

I use the ear as it has to be cut off to change it.. Or I guess it too can be messed up by a professional not to be read so the chip also done along with it may serve a dual purpose.

Tattoos on people have been cut off......just ask someone who is a member of a SERIOUS biker gang!!! I am 100% against tattoos or microchips for kids!  That is too much like the "mark of the beast" in the Bible!

Yeah because we can't take our kids to the local pd and have their prints on file. That would be too easy! Yeah let's tattoo them! I bet we could use that DNA stuff once in a while too.

My child was fingerprinted when his school offered it to parents. At first I really, really was uncomfortable with it... But I warmed up to it after awhile and agreed. His DNA is also on file.
