I went to my very first Schutzhund trial this weekend...I really had a good time. Interesting to note: There was a Malinois. I have read about this breed on the board, but never saw one live and up close. When you see one YOU KNOW IT.....This dog was very intense to say the least...

Ruger,
What was your take on the judging? Did it seem like the people were cool or every body
just trying to get their dogs titled?
Everybody remembers their first Schutzhund trial. Mine was a National and people from all over the country were there.
A guy I knew that had been very cordial and polite was a nerve bag yelling at his girlfriend and making all kinds of
excuses why his dog was not up to par. After that I learned hang out with the old veterans who would laugh, joke around, and just have a good time. But I knew they were dead serious about winning the trial. Because all the work they put on their dogs. So what were the impressions of your first Schutzhund trial?
Good, bad ,boring not what you expected? Or was it an eye opener as to the breed?

MainlyMax....Thanks for the post.
It was really exciting to attend my first trial. I enjoyed seeing it live opposed to a video. Everyone appeared to be relaxed and enjoying the trial. It was a friendly group, but not super eager to embrace an outsider IMO. I will look forward to going to another one for sure. I have no Schutzhund experience as I am very new to the sport. What was most interesting was the protection part, The intensity level of each dog was different.. Most of the GSD's were mild in their intensity, but the intensity of the Malinois was very intimidating. The malinois was right up in the helpers face....It was really awesome to see....

The Malinois that you saw is a close friend of mines dog. I am glad you enjoyed watching him work.

hunter-k-9....Wow...what a nice coincidence to have come across you on this board. Yep, that looks just like the dog I saw...I admire the focused expression he gives the helper....IMO he appears to be a very nice working dog. Not being experienced my opinion is not worth too much, but I got the impression that others felt the same way.....Were you there at the trail?............Thanks for the post

I got stuck at work that day so I had to miss the trial. We train just south of Dayton so that was about 3 hrs away from home.
Amp is a blast to work, fast young dog.
