Hans,
I like your "old and ugly" designation! The old ones are very little trouble, aren't they?
My group is the "old and decripit" (some old, some are just decripit!!).

Experience brings wisdom and respect.
But not all old dogs are the best.
Thats a fine looking 14 year old.

Yes, I agree wholeheartedly, old dogs are the very best. Just because they are.

I LOVE OLD DOGS. If a shepherd can get to old age these days,

My Bart passed at 11. Still miss him today.

I love old dogs also. I think they are more focused and less distracted, Also if you've had them for a long time there appears to be a stronger bond and more love. They are just so settled in and so much a part of the family.

They know everything....your schedules, your moods, your idiosyncrasies, your next move before you make it. They understand quite a bit of language while they can still hear. They are like an old friend..... easy to be with.

My Riane von Arkadien at 14 and a half, a few weeks before she passed away!

Last month, we lost our 9 year old Gibsie von den Leinewiesen totally unexpected. I miss her terribly and still look everywhere for her. She was our house dog and just simply the best. I am sure Rosie the cat wonders where she went as well. Rosie used to always cuddle with her. Our other cat never mustered that much courage.

I have lost a few old and beloved dogs over the years and still think about them often. Now, my oldest is 7 years old, no geriatric K-9s here right now. I can only tell anybody with old dogs to cuddle them often and take lots of photos. You never know how long you have them with you. I wish I would have taken more pictures.

Perfect timing for this post because today is my oldest girl's 11th birthday. She's never had a sick day in her life and still thinks she's two years old. The old ones are so very special and dear to us, bless them all! And happy birthday to my Eike Monkey :-) . Hope we celebrate many more birthdays together. Great pics, everyone!
