They featured a very cute and well temperamented red/'white pit bull, a pom, a SPAYED female GSD (in conformation) with some person from NY who did not know how to gait the dog, and a dude with his weight pulling ABs.
Gawd, it was amusing. UKC all the way! I enjoyed watching the happy pit bull with its happy owners, and enjoyed the pom owner's ditziness, and the "oh so usual" weight pull hyjinks, just wondered if anyone else caught it. Probably no one on here shows UKC (don't blame you!) but it was kinda fun to watch. (And I absolutely DO NOT watch anything on Animal Planet, but they snuck thiso ne up on me being on TLC!)

I read this in the article.
UKC is more preferred in the working lines . It is a great place to start as UKC people tend to be more open and less back stabbing as other shows. I have no problems going and show my dogs there ( I know a few other people on this forum ALSO show UKC and have a great time doing it). It beats doing nothing with your dog.
NOCURs, UKC is very in to your breed also I am surprised that you are not involved with them as they promote good BUllies and different events for them.
I will have to see if I can find the link to watch the show as I did not see it personally , I have attended that show for many years (did not have time this year to show :(
Ever watch BEST OF SHOW now that was totally funny!!!!!

Besides that takes all the fun out of it. :)
My children love it and enjoy being apart with the dogs and me . Good times are always shared and we bond a little closer each time. There are no tv, xboxes or gameboys, the kids have to talk and enter act with other children and people We have a show coming up, this one is the "girls show" no guys not even male dogs. We have our room all picked out, dinner afterwards and swimming at the pool!!! I am so looking forward to it and the girls are excited!!

I absolutely stopped showing UKC when they passed that idiotic "protection dog" title crap. Now, it may be fine for GSD, but for my breed it was absolutely ridiculous. Gee, all we need is a bunch of idiot pit bull people (hey, I can say that, being one of them!) teaching their dogs to LUNGE ON A LEASH AT SOMEONE so they can earn a title!
You know what? Ring and schutzhund are hard for a reason. Just having tracking in schutzhund keeps the level of "idjits" low. To title a dog in "protection", some where down the line, those who came before us knew that it should involve much more than amaturish obedience and "threat" displays. Thank gawd! Which is why, by the way, I care not for the "street dog" type junk out there.
Sorry, but I feel very strongly that the UKC felt the need to jump on the "protection dog" band wagon, and dumbed it down, just like its obedience and weight pull, and I don't like it, at all. In this day and age, those of us with dogs worked in bitework MUST have a level of dedication which far exceeds the requirements for the UKC protection dog program. So, I do my small part by boycotting them.
Sorry to rant, just a sore point with me. Not to mention, their judges are NOT well educated and definitely second string.
Rant over.

Working in both UKC and AKC obedience I find UKC is harder in the areas vs AKC. That is just me.
UKC and SDA (Service Dog of America) are no longer partners they split at the end of 2009. There is no more Protection titles from what I have seen. BUT I will say SDA is a great way again for people to get out and do something with the dogs. I plan on joining them this year as I want to work my dogs. I don't get all wrapped up in the politics and crap, takes away from my training time :)
I could see where that "might" be a problem for the Breed. But I can see where people might reply back with "if the dog is trained right and breed right (ie temperament and so fourth ) then the dog should be able to tell the difference like a Shepherd, Mali or Dutchie. Again I don't know the breed so I can not say one way or another.
ALSO there are not many registery that accept Dutchies - UKC does so I am all for them (besides the obedience, agility and show ;)
To each is there own - To me I just want train, have fun with my dogs and some ribbons along the way to show for all our hard work.
PS Are Bullies/pits good at tracking?

I'm THRILLED to hear there may no longer be a protection dog program at the UKC!!! I'll check, thank you for the info! It was never a problem so much with the dogs as with the handlers, and most people (in all breeds) don't know sound temperament, and end up trying to train spooks that they see as "protective". Bad deal!
BTW: I goofed when I put "obedience and weight p ull" I meant agility. No, I agree, UKC obedience is fine. However, their agility and weight pull not only have too young of a starting age, they are "dumbed down". Just my opinion.
I'd be interested to see stats on the number of AKC judges who are UKC judges... Not the ones I've seen! And certainly I'd be amazed if the guy judging pit bulls on the TLC program was an AKC judge!
Oh well, I'm glad you have fun with your dogs, as THAT is what it is all about! : )

I understand the criticism about some of the judges. I think there is a HUGE spectrum of good > shitty. One show I was at, this woman approached the ring with her dog for the Am Bull breed and the judge said, "excuse me, but we are doing Am Bulls right now, not Boxers." But the dog WAS an Am Bull, and the JUDGE thought it was a Boxer. Some of the GSD judging has also been questionable, but, we do it for fun.
I like the DOS entries, I don't have to enter like 4 weeks in advance, I can just wake up and see if I feel like showing my dog or if he's in the right condition and go if I want to.
