I posted some months ago about a rescue dog (my avatar) that I took in. I received alot of good suggestions as to why he couldnt get well. After watching him basically starve to death, I decided to put him down today. I asked the vet to autopsy him because after months of testing, meds, diets and suppliments, NOTHING WORKED. All tests came back normal (less his urine ph)
The vet called me and said that Remus had lymphangiectasia. I had to have him spell the word just so I could look it up. Remus didnt have some of the classic symptoms and its rare in German Shepherds. Has anyone else ever heard of or know of this disease (lymphatic vessel disorder in the instestines). I sincerely hope that no one ever has to go through what I did with this dog. Im sad that Remus couldnt live out his life to old age but he was at least able to live inside with a family who loved him and so much wanted him to get well.
Rest in Peace Remus!

I'm sorry about Remus. I think most of us have had to put a dog down due to illness or injury at one time or another, it's never easy.

Sorry to hear the painful decision you had to make with Remus today. My heart goes out to you. RIP Remus x.
I have not heard of the disease Remus was diagnosed with but thanks for bringing it to our attention.

Thanks everyone. With doing rescue Ive had to put down a few dogs over the years and there is always that question of asking myself if I did the right thing. Today I can say after the autopsy, I know that I DID do the right thing. Its the first autopsy Ive done and would definitely recommend it to someone in this situation.
