Are the pictures posted on pdb allowed to be published on individual websites?
If we post our dogs on here for information should byb be able to copy and paste pictures of our dogs on their websites so they appear to show lineage of their dogs?
I have since improved my contract but before I did I sold one of my puppies to a less than desireable breeder in MO and now she is supposedly in the hands of another less than desireable breeder in MO. She has had multiple litters (at least 3, first one she had before 12 months old) is 2 yrs and 5 months old and has not even been OFA'd (well supposedly prelimed). I have an attorney working on the copyright issue but was adviced to see if anyone else has already gotten to the bottom of it. I do not want ANYONE thinking I am associated with or agree with the breeding practices of her owner!
Please if anyone has any information please pass it on.
Thank you

Seltenruhe, it is considered correct and respectful to request permission before posting a photograph of someone else's dog on this website or any other website. Of course in many cases the owner/breeder of a dog is deceased and there is no one knowledgeable who can be contacted. In any case; the person posting the information must be 100% sure that they post the truth.
That said; I do not think there is very much that you can do past making a written request and perhaps the threat of legal action. Most people are clueless regarding their rights and are terrified of attourneys - so a written inquiry and declaration from an attourney's office might just do the trick.
As I understand internet protocol; once pictures are posted here or on any other public website; they are in the public domain and no longer anyone's personal property. If someone used the photographs to enrich themselves; defame someone, or interfere with someone's financial gain, then I think one might have a case. If the pictures were stolen - not just copied from a website, then there might be a case.
I am not an attourney so I am not making legal advice - just stating what I know about the effect the world-wide-web has on what was once one's personal property. Once information is posted on the world-wide-web it is available to anyone who wishes to copy it.
Not an answer - I agree. But perhaps a different way to resolve the situation.
Best Regards,
Bob-O
