Dy's Liquid Bandage? This stuff is liquid gold!! The tips of Dar's ears have been loosing fur and the skin was dry.I thought it might be mites so I treated it for that. That wasn't the cause. Then I thought maybe a fungal problem....that wasn't it either. Then I was searching through some other medical things i had from when I worked at the vet clinic and i found some Dy's Liquid Bandage. WOW it worked. His skin is looking more healthy and his fur is growing back. I wish I would have used it sooner instead of messing with all the other things.
If your dog has an abrasion, fur loss, dry patch of skin....I highly suggest to try it.

sounds like flies were getting after your boy

Uber Land- I though that at first too, but he was an indoor dog when it happened. When he was living out doors I had fly stuff on him(ears mostly) One of my pet peeves( I have many lol) Is when people let their dogs ears be eaten by flies. So I am always watching to make sure they aren't. This DLB actually has something in it to keep flies away. I looked it up and it is liquid gold. For a 1/2oz it is over $2. It has natural things in it like olive oil and bees wax. I guess it has been mostly used by Equine people. Go figure I got it from my friend that is an Equine vet.

Pharaoh had little bits of hair loss at the top of his ears. It was from his crate rubbing on his ears while in the car. Pharaoh's ears stick through the top of the crate when sitting. It is a sliver wire crate and it is coated but it is not as smooth as the black crates.
I took a plastic garbage bag and lined the top of the crate, carefully taping it from the top so that it is smooth and taught.

It could of simply been the dry weather, the sun or any irritant. I think the liquid bandages are great for keeping things away from the air. I used a liquid bandage when my dog got hot spots. She never had them until I got rain on her in another state. By the next day she had them. I used a wound lotion by 21st century then sprayed the liquid bandage on because I wanted to keep the meds on and the stuff worked great doing that. If the air doesn't get there then it stays on much longer.
The dog was totally comfortable with the stuff on.
I would recommend it too. I think if I ever get poision oak again, I will use it over the calomine lotion.
I don't have these wipes right now, they are in the truck and truck is gone.
But, I did find an all natural mosquito and fly wipes that are soy based. I don't know the name darn it but they work great unless you get rained on alot.
But, I am thinking of using them on the dog, nothing to hurt them in it. Also there is online something called Tickguard.
That is all natural too in a pump. I am thinking of trying that too.

I know what you mean about dogs ears getting eaten away by flies. HATE seeing that and it's so easy to prevent. Even Vaseline works to keep the flies off.
I keep my yard clean and they still come, so my dogs get a squirt of Bronco fly spray about once a week to every two weeks, depending on if they have been in the pool a lot.

My dog's indoors & his ear tips are always thickened, occasionally crusty-I think it's an allergic expression.

I've used a vaseline-like product called Pulvex for years with good success. I've never had the specific issue you're having but have used it for minor cuts and scrapes and for a bitch I had that got snow nose and crusty lips in the colder months. I'm pretty sure it's widely available in pet stores and whatnot and a tin of it lasts almost forever!
