Hello
I have a Stud dog lined up who at this point plans to take pick of the litter (otherwise I will jsut pay stud fee)
Anyone have ideas/suggestions of how you handle a contract? I feel like I would like to have some type of agreement?
They suggested I bring my female & leave her a few days? I would rather just take her for several  visists during her heat?

Thanks

Haineso4,
My suggestion to you is get everything in writing and signed BEFORE the breeding takes place... Also, I would NEVER leave my bitch at NO ONE's home for breeding... My experience, if possible, take the time to drive your girl to the male and witness the breeding... Bring her back home.....take her back fro another breeding.... OF course that is if the stud owner agrees.. If they can not understand you doing this, or will not agree, just find another stud...

I left a bitch at a very reputable and recommended stud owner's home to get bred. Drove almost 3 hrs one way.  I called everyday to check on her. I was told everything was going great... When I picked her up, I was told she was bred 3 times, given dates, paid my stud fee and went home...I anxiously awaited my litter, which never came....The next time the same bitch came in heat, due to my health reasons, I wasn't able to drive back to previous stud owner. I used another male closer and drove back and forth each day. However we could not get a deep penetration, much less a tie. Took my girl to the vet and after examining her the vet said she had a vaginal obstruction which prevented deep pentration and a tie.  Had the vet not removed the obstruction, she never would have had a penetration and a tie. When I told him the previous stud owner said she had witnessed a tie with the same bitch, he laughed and said "No way, she lied to you."....I never did speak to that "REPUTABLE" stud owner again. I did send her a copy of the vet's examination and procedure he did on my bitch. I never recieved a reply. I know she recieved it because it was sent registered and signature required upon recieving.

Moral of this story, not all reputable breeders can be trusted...I am sure there are many many great success stories. My story maybe just that one, that was bad.. Just keep in mind, all that glitters is not gold....

JUST MY OPINION......

Thanks I aprreciate (sp?) your reply lots of lookers  but no one else has any suggestions on contracts hard to bleive on here everyone being quiet! LOL

I totally agree this will be my first breeding & I only have to drive abour 45min-hr & the stud is the father to a neutered male I have so I know the lines etc but I have only talked to the breeders after I purchased this male @ 4months old to get backround info on him. & I have seen heard other frauds out there they can talk the talk!  They have never studed him out before I when I said I didn't deel comfortable leaving her they were ok & said their male (& i know for a fact) is proven so as long as my female agrees it won't take long
So for me it's totally worth just driving I didn't even think about witnessing the act I just want her to be safe.
I would like some kind of contract I was hoping I would get some samples on here?!

Thanks

if it's local just drive her there and take her h ome with you.  I have stud dogs and leave it open to the females' owner as to what they want to do - usually if they are within driving distance they come/go and come back again - if they aren't, they bring/drop off/leave until she's done, or ship her.  I'm good for any of these options -

Yes make sure there is a contract.  Personally (as female and stud dog owner) I will not take or give pick puppy - or any puppy in exchange for the stud fee.  First, puppy is worth more than the stud fee (usually) - and what if she only has one or two puppies?  what if one is coated?  then you are stuck with no puppies, or a coatie for all of your hard work?  I would pay the stud fee, get the breeding, make sure you get the signatures needed to register the litter, and that's that.

Here is a sample of my stud contract. You may use it if you like. (Of course you would just need to change a few things)

Thanks for your replies! I have already decided I will never leave my female anywhere.  & since I hadn't done this before I know I had heard of people in the past either pup/fee. They just lost both of their femals so they only have the male & So they wanted the pup & might keep it?  So I feel like I can't go back now & say let me just pay stud fee?  I was worried what if there is only one pup but I like vonhartwin's contract it said  somthing about 1 pup dead/alive is a litter but then something about a re breeding in the next year?

Thanks

I guarantee one live healthy puppy as a litter and fair exchange for the stud fee.  I offer a repeat breeding to that female or another equally suitable female, if there is no litter.  I don't put a limit on the number of repeat breedings, but will help the female owner as best I can, get the female progesterone tested, vet checked or whatever is necessary to figure out how to get her bred and pregnant if she turns out to be a problem.  I never charge board for females who stay here while they are being bred, and I pick up/drop off dogs at the airport for only fuel costs.   This is speaking as the stud dog owner.

as a female owner, I expect to pay the full stud fee up front.  I expect to have a pregnant female and signed registration paperwork in exchange for that stud fee, with at least one live healthy puppy.  Of course I hope for more than one puppy.  I expect to pay all transportation costs, and vet bills associated with the shipping or transport of the female.
