Ruger1

I just read through some threads on gulping water and I am concerned about this causing bloat in my pup. Honestly the way he drinks is more like biting rather than lapping at the water. He puts his nose down into the bowl under the water. He takes tons of water into his mouth and drools all over the floor and repeats this until I call him away from his bowl. By the time he is finished the floor is soaked .....I wonder if anyone has experienced this behavior and what was done to stop it.
                                                Thanks Ruger1

NNNNOOOO, none of us has ever had a dog do anything like that!  ROARING HERE.  If there's always a mess in the house, especially involving water, there's a GSD in the house too!  I find the bigger the bowl, the smaller the mess (unless they haven't yet passed the dish dumping phase) , if that's any help.

My 2 year old GSD does that.I got if from someone that had him living outside with no real socialization.I think he got board and entertained him self. When he moved in to my place I had to put plastic garbage bags under his cage so he didn't ruin the wood floor. Dar the 7 year old likes to dive in the kiddie pool or lake or river but he hasn't doen that to his water dish. I too have gone through wet socks and also sometimes I swear they hold it in their mouth till the come over by me and can drool it out over my lap!!! Gotta love them and their comedy routines!!

You ain't seen nothing yet...YOu ought to own  a  KORBELBACH   dog

there is no dish unturned, no water bucket left upright , and the mouth is with a container of some kind in it at all times.!!!!

GSDtravels witnessed him and he is the Grandsire of Drakius also..wonder where Drakius got his drives??????? It is spelled  KORBELBACH.   Water excites him and there is not enough water in Texas to drown him.

No hole deep enough, no tie down strong enough, and no pvc pipe large enough to stop a KORBELBACH  pup or dog as mine is 11 yrs old

If the bowl, pipe , bucket with all handles destroyed and off, is out of his reach, your bark and hold is in for full range for the length of the day until it is replaced or back in his MOUTH>

I own stock in Stainless steel  Stew Pots and pvc pipe and Stainless Steel food bowls..He is fed on the floor as I do not use bowls for feeding. I quit supplying him food bowls years ago but he has to have water and unless I could surgically inplant a water bag into his kidneys to somehow miraculously drip it from the heavens above, I will have to continue to buy Stew Pots for his fetish.

Yeah, I'm with the thorned beauty, Yellowrose. Its not bad until you have to find the thickest stainless steel bowls known to man and strap em down. By the way, just reading the title of your topic, I thought maybe you had a couple teenage sons trying to help starch the socks. :().

As you can see, Ruger, you're not alone.  Water by itself will not cause bloat; it is when it is combined with food that it becomes an issue.  I typically restrict my dogs' water intake and activity level for about an hour before and after they eat.

My male loves to snorkel in his water bucket.  He dives his head in and bites the water, then uses his paws to splash and dig the water out.  He's not a puppy and has always done this.  He also drops all of his toys in the water bucket or bowl then takes them out.  This is great when he is in the house and finds an open toilet bowl.  He takes the biggest kong, which seems to hold gallons of water, drops it in the bowl. He then removes it full of water and runs around the house until he finds someone and drops it in their lap.  He's the only one that finds that funny.  Actually, I think it's funny when he does it to my wife.  Not funny at all when he drops that water logged kong in my lap though.
