A friend of mine has a female 8 month old shepherd. She came to me because her poor dog has terribly red irritated, itchy skin and is actually losing her hair in spots. She has changed foods a couple of times looking for a no grain (corn, wheat, wheat gluten etc) kibble and is now trying Diamond naturals lamb and rice (I know, I know) she is also offering an egg twice daily. Here is her original message...
i was wondering if your dogs have dry skin? my dog has awful dry skin. The vet told me to put a little veg oil in her food, i did but it is bad! i use oatmeal shampoo, still bad dry skin. If your dogs have/had it how do you deal with it??? btw i give her food that has no dye also. Idk what to do=(
What advice would you give that I can pass on to her...
Thanks,
Shannan :)

PS: if you used plain vegetable oil, that is soy based and NONE of my dogs can use anything with soy or flax seed or any flax oil. Also if they are getting eggs twice per day that is tooooo much, an egg 2 per WEEK would be OK.
PS, PS: all of my guys were itching no matter what kind of dog food I put them on. I went to raw and all that stopped. also cleaned everyones teeth nicely and lots more benefits which I am sure you have read about, if not, might be a good idea to look into it.
Good luck Nan

Thanks Nan... I had mentioned the Soy and Flax Seed being a problem, I personally feed a raw diet as well so I have no trouble like this... I figured this was too much egg... I just feel badly for her and her dog...

Hi Shannon,
The pup needs to have a skin scraping to see if it has a external parasite issue, or is having a skin infection. Did she take to the pup to a vet yet? Once the itching starts during the summer all kinds of things happen, the dogs comfort needs to be addressed.
Always,
Cee
