I know that we all come from various walks of life with various desires for our dogs and various definitions of what makes a proud moment for each of us.  It might be on the Schutzhund field, in the show ring, in the agility ring, doing SAR, police work or just day to day living with our dogs and I thought it might be nice to recognize those moments!

This weekend I had a couple.

As some of you know my 10 month old male went missing the morning of July 3rd and I spent this holiday weekend desperately looking for him.  My constant companion in my search was my 3 year old bitch, my 'little girl'.  She was by my side non stop, walking the neighborhood, driving around in the car and just keeping close to me to keep me company.  She tracked him as far as she could (I had to call her back or risk getting shot by a farmer!) and she was always ready to walk with me when I went out.  She stayed by my side without batting an eyelash as we passed dozens of 'unofficial' fireworks, never once reacting to the chaos around her.

The young male, found himself a loving family of dog people, where he spent the weekend.  According to them, he spent the two days he was gone from my side, gently keeping watch over their infant grandchild and 2 year old grandchild.  He stayed in their small house with their small dogs without so much as a grumble but in particular stuck close to their grandchildren and allowed them to crawl all over him.  How much more can you ask of a high drive, working line 10 month old puppy?  Even though he scared me to death, he made me so proud when I went to pick him up and the woman who had kept him safe simply raved over his obedience, his temperment and his gentleness.  A scared young dog, yet sound enough in the mind and breeding to be calm, gentle and obedient when he was shown kindness.

So my two stories ... next? :D

PS:  If you ever have the misfortune to lose your dog, USE INTERNET RESOURCES!  This is how my young male and I were reunited!

I think, even though you invited others to join with stories of pride in their dogs, that yours deserve this thread all by themselves!  You have every right to be proud as a peacock!  What a nice commentary on the breed, good PR is always a wonderful thing and we're proud of them too!

I'm proud of both my boys. My husband informed me that my dogs were strait crazy while I was gone for 2.5 days in the hospital. When I came home, the first thing I wanted to do was check on my dogs. My oldest was loose out back, guarding the yard while we were away. Baden was pressed to the glass of the back door when I looked, I just had to let him in to say hello to my newborn son and myself. Even though he was exuberant to see me, he didn't jump up or slam into me like he sometimes is known to. He quickly smelled our newborn son and myself while I held the baby. The dog scooted right back outside, without as second thought, when I told him to go outside.(quite the fight normally, I have to be very stern)

My younger dog just sniffed me for a long time when I let him out of his kennel. I didn't have the baby with me, too hot outside and I wanted to see how my pup reacted first, after being locked up for 3 ays with no excersize. Normally he spins, jumps and is just a nut when I first let him out on a normal day. He was very good, not bumping or jumping on me once. He just took in the smells on my clothes. Maybe today I will have more time with the dogs before it gets too hot to be outside.

Michelle,
Congrats on having the baby!  That's great, I'm not surprised how your dogs acted at all.  So what day was the baby born?  How are you feeling?  What great news, I was wondering what the date was going to be.  A future decoy!

Baby was born 7/3/10 @ 1116am. 8lbs 8oz 22 3/4 inches. Im feeling allot better, now that I am home. Up early, feeding baby and all that mommy stuff taken care of. Now I am off to play with my poor neglected dogs before it heats up for the day.

I would be estatic, if the baby ends up as into the dogs as mom is.

Wonderful story, Lael!! It demonstrates what I have stated repeatedly: a high drive worlong line dog with good nerves and temperament is able to fit into a family "pet" home as easily as any other dog with excellent temperament. It is ALL about temperament, first and foremost. Michelle, Great to "see" you again. I hope you and the baby are feeling great.
