I recently adopted a GSD from a shelter in S. CA, she has a tattoo, can anyone give me any information on how to get in contact with the original breeder? I tried the AKC, she is not in their data base, the local rescues are not being helpfull, saying they have nothing to do with breeders. Any information will be appreciated! Thank you...

Can you post the information off the tattoo? Someone may be able to help if they know what the tattoo says.

USA has a tattoo scheme that will tell you the part of the country, the breeder, litter and number from the litter.  But, not even all USA-registered breeders use it.  Many breeders use their own tattoo scheme.   Assuming you can actually read the tatttoo, can you post it here?

The tattoo # is HB911P4. She is about a year old red and black, a very nice looking dog. The reason I got her was I had the same age, color and size dog come up missing from her kennel, while everyone was at work. The Lady who rescued her from the shelter, thought it could have been my dog. I purchased my dog while I was in AL, my mom was keeping my dog till I came out in june to pick her up. About a month before june, she was gone. I have never seen my dog in person. Her tattoo # was UHHS6A9. I didn't have my dog's #, just got it this morning from breeder, well the #'s don't match. Since the lady had adopted the dog legally from city shelter, had owned the dog over a month before I got the call and went and paid adoption fee and picked her up and now my kids are all attached to her, I really don't want to return the dog to the rescue, even if she is not my original dog. I do want to get in touch with the breeder to see what the circumstances of this dog ending up at the shelter. I want to do the right thing if the dog is a missed family member.

Perhaps the dog has been through enough.

If you really want to do what is right then give the dog a proper home now.

Moons.

That's why I don't want to take her back to rescue. I don't know what she has been through. I am planning on keeping her, just curious about her, and for the piece of mind, knowing another family isn't really missing her. She already made her self at home, running around playing with the other dogs, sleeping in my daughter's bed.. lol..  Even knowing she isn't the dog I bought, she is still a great pet. Just wish I could have found my dog.. Since the reason I bought a dog from a good breeder, was to have a quality AKC registered dog, I could get involved in showing. Funny how things work out.. lol

Perhaps the real owner is searching for this dog!  Trying to find the dog's owner IS the right thing to do!

Two Moons, what if someone stole your dog and it escaped...perhaps someone found it and just KEPT it!   You never know
what the story is, might not be bad!
